Today marks the 8th anniversary of this talented entertainer's death.

On August 25, 2001, Aaliyah andeight others were killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas, after completing the filming of the music video for her song "Rock the Boat". She was 22.

Probably many of you haven't heard of her. She was a very lovely singer and had only three studio albums under her belt at the time of her death, with two more released post humous. She had filmed two movies, "Romeo Must Die" with Jet Li, and probably the more well known "Queen of the Damned", where she played the title character, Akasha.

I was young when she died but I was a huge fan, and will remain so forever. It's so sad when someone who truly was gifted and such a sweet soul is taken so young, before even the prime of her career.

Here are some songs you *may* know of hers...

Journey to the Past, from the movie "Anastasia". It was nominated for an Academy Award and she actually sung it at the Oscars... Too bad this was the year of "Titanic", Celine Dione won that year.

I Miss You. The video was released after her death as a tribute.

I still remember that day. I sat down and cried. I was such a huge fan, had been since her first cd. The "QOD" movie came out after she died. Just before I went in to see it they played "One in a Million", when I came out it was on again. Even before she died I had said if I had a girl I would name her after Aaliyah.

Hmm... methinks there's a video tape of your talent show performance somewhere?
Choreography or singing?
*hint, hint*

Nope! I NEVER told my mom about anything like that! So no me anywhere. :pDidn't want attention.

Yay I'm not the only one!! I thought I'd post this and then someone would say "Aw that's sad" just to be nice. Every 25th of August we have "Aaliyah Day", we listen to the CDs all day and watch her music videos, and both of her films. It always gets me teary eyed...

My VERY favorite Aaliyah song is "Turn the Page". [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlnQWaiMvUM[/ame]

And also...

Hehe, I remember when I had a Polish doe named Aaliyah and an AFL buck named R. Kelley. I still giggle about that pair even now, haha.

I seriously considered the name for a girl, but no one can say/spell it! When I was pregnant with Tanner I was adament that if he was a girl he'd be Aaliyah, and just no one could get it. So luckily he was a boy. :p

I should take pics of my Aaliyah stuff...

I loved Aaliyah when I was a young teen. She had such a beautiful voice and seemed like such a classy girl. I can't believe I'm older than she was when she died! I remember when she died, I was 16 and had just returned from being in Austria for a year. Also, my best friend's sister named her baby girl Aaliyah back in 1997. I've always loved the name- it's so beautiful- but would spell it Alia. Easier to spell and pronounce, and I would simply be using the name because I love it, not after Aaliyah herself. Unfortunately, my grandfather's new wife has a sweet little granddaughter named Alia so that's out!

I saw her at Summer Jam 97 or 98.

She was part of one of my favorite crews:

Timbaland, Ginuwine, Missy and Aaliyah

Timbaland produced a lot of her songs in the day and she appeared on his albums.

I remember that day and was very sad to hear the news. She was so talented and beautiful. I love the song with Timbaland.
