In a predicament: Can I leave my bunny home for three days?

Okay, this is going to sound horrible. But my family and I are going out of London tomorrow! And I have no one to look after Apollo.

At first we we're going to bring Apollo with us, but the place we're staying at doesn't allow pets. A lot of my family are also out of town or are busy. I don't know if I can get a boarding service this late minute and I don't trust any of my neighbours. We only booked this trip a few days ago, and it's only a three day trip. Leave Sunday afternoon, get back Tuesday afternoon.

Is it possible to leave Apollo home, or is that the most dangerous thing I could do? I can see if someone can check on him once or twice a day.

Is there another thing that I could try?

Having someone to come in twice a day sounds like the best idea, that’s probably less stressful than boarding anyway as Apollo will be in their own environment.

there my even be a reputable pet sitter in the area if you have a google?

When I'm away I have a teen down the road to come over once or twice a day, important is to give simple, clear instructions (Like: Change hay and water, not just top off, no matter if it still looks good etc), go through the chores in real once (not just explaining on the phone), and prepare stuff as good as possible, like putting the right amounts of food, hay etc. in bowls, labeled for each day. Put your phone number on the labels too, just in case.

last resort...would leaving him at the vet work? It might be a bit pricey but at least he'll be with those who know what to do if something happens *knocks on wood

Glad you have a bunny sitter. We have had success with setting our bun up for a max of 3 nights of water and hay with an auto pellet feeder. We have a bunny cam( ezviz is not too expensive on amazon) in the room to check on him and a house key with someone in case he needs a human. But best is someone daily

Same here, never more than 2 days and w/o a cam and my girl's been fine.

Thanks everyone! I just picked Apollo up, he’s very happy and enjoyed his stay. He was a big celebrity there (lol) and definitely a hit with my animal loving godbrother - who is 6.

I really like the idea of a little camera, but I’m not planning on leaving him for a while again. I do quite like spying on him though

Summer is almost over, so not many more trips for me until next year

When we travel for more than a day, we make sure someone can come check on the rabbit once a day. Optimally we have one friend come in the morning and another time at night, both times to do feeding and then changing the litter at night. I am glad you found someone caring to look after your rabbit. Many times, the temporary "pet sitter" derives real joy from taking care of a bunny.

Regarding a camera, we use Wyze (which syncs to Amazon cloud) and we highly recommend it. The price of the hardware itself is like $25.98 for a 1080p camera and I would *highly* recommend one. We bought a separate memory card that can store several days' worth of footage, which gets over-ridden over time, but it makes sure that we don't miss a moment and we can always save video clips of the rabbit binkying and doing other crazy stuff caught on camera.
