Show I went to an open show today not to show, but to get a feel for things and I met up with a few breeders that I had been chatting with via email.

I talked quite a bit with the breeder that I had bought my chocolate havana and then chatted and watched the judging on a few other breeds.

I have yet to decide what coloration (besides chocolate) I would like to get my Havanas into and have been thinking about getting a second breed.

Dwarf Hotots, I LOVE them and they seem like a pretty fun and slightly hard (dealing with sports/mis marks) breed and would love to do a dwarf breed. There aren't too many breeders in our area (actually no breeder lol) and ran into a few at the show, including a woman from canada. I had found out about the show in the first place via email from a couple of hotot breeders.

Long story short I ended up taking 4 dwarf hotots home :p

**They are not posed as they have just come home and need to settle in :)

First doe (she hasn't hit breeding age yet) She's a sport, meaning she has bad marks on her if you can't tell lol; but fully pedigreed and has GREAT body type (though the picture does not show it). The breeder I bought her from said that she's bred to sports before in order to get the mix of correct coloration and type.

Wow didn't see that she was moving while I took this lol I'll have to geta few newpics with them posedonce they settle in.

Second Doe, she's a tad long in the back but is proven, fully pedigreedand has babies on the show table. Before she went into breeding she did nicely on the show table herself, her breeder gave me her ribbons and score cards for keepsakes.

Buck 1, he's smaller than he looks in the pic (thanks to my 'lovely' phone's camera). Lovely pedigree andhas shownnicely.

Buck 2, I'm in love with this guy. When posed he's perfect lol but you can see he's not anywhere close. He has wonderful bands and lovely type (only that he's molting now). I got him from a breeder that didn't bring anything to sell butother heardthat I was wanting to get into the breed :) He's won several 1st's and 2nd's and BOS(again I have his ribbons and judge cards to see how they scored him). On his Dam and Sire each have a list of their own BOB and BOS winnings as well. I'm super excited to get him showing for myself and to get my first litter from him. ^_^

Sport doesn't mean bad markings, ;), it just means that she is a BEW carrier (I believe?) just like in VM. Although yes, Sport/VM coloured rabbits can't be shown.
lol Wrong term, I didn't mean like 'bad' as in horrible or anything, just not the coloration for the breed. ^_^ Love her to bits though and she's perfect besides the color. :)

Themismark Dwarf Hotots are not due to the vienna gene - they are produced through a combination of the Dutch and English spotting genes of the Dwarf Hotot breed. Occasionally, the Dutch gene produces blue eyes.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the little "Bandit Bunnies!". We've been breeding and showing them for about 10 years.

That's what I thought. I didn't think DH carried the vienna gene.

Nice bunnies! :D I too am new to DH, and I love them already. I have junior buck. Hopefully I will be getting a doe soon.

Good luck with them!

I love the little ones you got!! I was thinking about getting into them, but I have heard they are mean,.. but then again.. some people don't know what they are talking about. So, how are the temperaments???

I will be honest, my little boy has a temper. He knows he is the king bunny. lol When I first got him he kicked and scratched. After one week of handling him everyday he has become more relaxed with me. I haven't gotten scratched all that much lately. He is precious. He will sit in the palm of my hand, and fall asleep within minutes. He loves to give me kisses, and will sleep right under my neck.

DH's are my favorite breed, but they do need a bit of training. At the show last weekend I carried him all around the show with me. I was a little cautious before getting into DH's. I too had heard that they were mean. I am glad I got into them though. :)

lol Temper-wise, my bucks are both laid back and love to cuddle, the does those, the Jr. is just hitting her hormones and the Sr. doe 'Momma' is a crab :p But a loveable crab.

I wouldn't say they're mean, from what the breeders said, they have come a long way with breeding the DH, but it takes a good amount of handling and time to get them to trust and be friendly. :)

In all honesty, temperament is a highly genetically influenced trait and it has taken strict culling to improve the breed's temperament to the point it is at today. Nasty animals should not be tolerated in the barn or sold to other breeders to perpetuate the problem.

:yeahthat:That's what I was told from the breeders, that the breed has come a long way with their temperament. :) But to be perfectly honest, I believe that the breeder that I bought the does from really doesn't take her time with the animals. They're all fine once they're out and being played with, but when we first got them the were quite grouchy and were almost like no one ever spent the time to get the used to being handled and taken out of their cages.

Momma, our oldest doe was the worst. She was so bad that she would hide in the back of her cage and grunt and flip out if you reached in even to feed her. Now she comes running and hops up on the door of her cage and nearly begs for food and attention (she LOVES being on the couch too lol). But I don't know how she was raised. We let all of ours have playtime (at least an hour a day) and they get one-on-one grooming and play/treat time with us. Whereas her old breeders, I'm not sure how much they did with her outside of breeding. :-/
