I recently adopted a himalayan dwarf mix bunny from a shelter.

He was found severley injuredand emaciatedon theside of the road, but he is recovering nicely. They believe he wasthrown from a car, as he had 2 fractures in his tibias but no obviouswounds. He was fostered with a vet for about 6 weeks, and Ijust brought him home Sunday.

He has an appointment with my vet on Thursday, and I was wondering ifthey will be able to tell me how old my bunny is? Can they check theirteeth and determine age like they do with dogs and cats?

They may be able to tell you juvenile or adult, but I don't think teeth are any indication since the front ones, atleast, grow constantly. Sounds like a brave bun, and welcome to theboard.

Rabbits are hard to agebest one can do isdetermine Juvie or adult .

I do wish there was a wayto tell exact age tho Itwould make determining feedingsa little easier .

Welcome Donna -- you certainly have one lucky rabbit!

No -- there is no way to determine age by looking at the teeth.

Welcome to the forum Donna!

I'm glad you've brought this topic up. A few weeks back I sent Carolyn, our Administrator a PM about that. Although, she said that there is noanswer to determine the age of a bun. I'm still trying to figure mybuns age also.

Good luck,

Katy.

The weight of the eye increases as the rabbitages -- however, you'd have to remove the eye to weigh it, so that'snot a practical option

Welcome to the forum Donna!

I adopted my bunny from the vet. TheDoctor just guess that Pebbles was about 5 monthsold, so I used the date that I broughther home (November 23) and subtracted 5months coming up with June23 for her birthday. :dude:

Rainbows! :)
