LC came home yesterday and she is not eating like she normallly does. I gave her some carrots and her favorite yogurt treats and some new chewy things. She chewed some on the chewy treat but didn't seem to touch her others. I know it is normal to not have much of an appetite after surgery but how long before I should be worried? I am at work all day today but plan to entice her more when I get home around 7. Her surgery cut looked good last night and she is hopping around as usual but she just isn't hungry I guess. Any special treat ideas that will help?Sheryl and LC

Is she eating anything at all? Is she pooping? It's not good for her to go over 24 hours without eating something. I've had luck with Nutrical- a supplement/appetite stimulant for cats and dogs. You just smear a little on the paw. Also pick up a feeding syringe because if that doesn't get her eating you'll need to either bring her to a vet or start syringe feeding until you can get her to a vet the next day. For syringe feeding, grind up some of her pellets then soak them in water for a while till they're a thin mush.

Does she have any painkillers? If not, could you call you r vet and see if they can give you some painkillers to pick up on your way home?

BTW, all my girls liked it when I held their food for them after they were spayed. It made it "special" so they actually ate it.

The chewy thing was her hay bundled up with berries in it and she did eat some of that last night. I am sick myself so I plan to leave work early and go home to check on her before I go to my part time job. If she hasn't eaten yet I will make sure to pick up one of those syringe things. She appears to be acting fine. I asked them about pain medicine when I picked her up and they said typically after the 2nd day they don't give any.If she isn't eating when I go home I will call my vet as well. Thanks for the advice. You could try tempting her with alfalfa hay and/or oat and/or her favorite fruits or veggies. My girl would only eat hand fed alfalfa hay for 2 days after her spay.

Make sure she's warm too because their temperature drops after a spay.

hi...

i hope by now your bunny is eating. i got my bunny Brandy spayed last week tuesday (around noon), and according to her vet, i had to make sure that she was eating something by wednesday afternoon. he didn't say how much, though; i wished i had asked. but the advice was to definitely call him if she wasn't eating by then because we would probably have to syringe-feed her.

When I got Brandy home tuesday evening, she took a few nibbles of parsley, lettuce and celery, but her appetite was no where near what it used to be. i guess major surgery will do that to you. :brownbunny she was prescribed metacam--they were pre measured in six syringes and i was instructed to give them to her twice a day for three days. i gave the first dose wednesday morning.

I noticed that she returned to her normal self (eating like a pig, hopping, wanting to be with her bunny boy Jar Jar) about friday evening. i hope that helps. wishing you and bunny a speedy recovery!:goodluck

Sorry I haven't been around to give a nupdate...LC is doing much better. She is eating again, especially lettuce. Her wound looks good and she appears to be returning to herself again...which I am happy about. Thanks for asking about my girl.

Thats great news! I read this the other day and forgot to post. My girls both had surgery yesterday. They were definitely not very hungry on day 1, but today they are both eating just fine (still not as much as normal though).

Parsley is another good thing to entice her to eat more. All my bunnies adore it :)

Heres hoping shes on her way to a speedy recovery
