I find that my vegetables go bad within the first few days after buying them. They also will smell bad. I keep all of my veggies in a mini fridge in my bedroom and whenever I open it, it smells terrible. They are kept in the plastic sleeves(?) I buy them in. Should I get a few plastic containers to keep them in? Or do most veggies go bad fast? It's really annoying and I hate throwing away heads of lettuce that I've only had a few days.

I try not to buy too much at once. I also use these bags:

You can find them on Amazon too.

The bags the lettuce comes in from the store aren't good for storage at home. Also, leafy greens like lettuce do best in a high humidity refrigerator drawer (you know those drawers in large fridges that have a control setting for low or high humidity?). Fruits go in low humidity drawer.

I just ordered some of those bags. Thank you!

I will be sure to read them :)

I follow the way 101rabbits (YouTube) does hers: wash, dry, roll up in paper towls, & store in containers in the fridge.

I go through a lot of paper towels, but they usually last a full week.

(I used a minifridge throughout college. Those things don't work nearly as well as full-size refrigerators for keeping food from spoiling.)

I kept my vegetables in the main fridge, but they took up a ton of room in the fridge so my mom got me the mini fridge. There's 6 people in my family, so having a drawer for just his vegetables didn't work.

vegetables actually need to breath so don't leave them in any plastic they may have come in. I keep by bunny's veggies in a cloth grocery bag in the fridge (we have a second one in the garage as we have lots of duck/chicken eggs and goat milk to store as well!). I find that not washing them until I'm giving them to the bunnies helps them keep longer. Basically, store food the same way you might store it for yourself!

I once found a generic brand of those "Green bags" at Dollar Tree! I was so happy... then really sad when they stopped having them, lol. I love those miracle workers, and if you hand wash them gently after use and hang them over the kitchen faucet or something to dry, you can reuse them over and over. I don't bother these days, as four rabbits (though the Californian makes it feel more like five, veggie-wise) tear through veggies so fast. When I only had two, though, I loved the green bags so much!

I've seen those types of containers before and heard good things about them from someone I personally know who has tried them (they came out after green bags had been around for a while). Never tried them myself though, both for budgetary reasons (we be broke) and because the green bags did the trick for us. Either way, though, the various veggie-saver systems/products on the market definitely DO work.

I would like to try the containers at some point, but I'm broke and don't have space in my fridge for it. Thank you to everyone who has replied!
