I saw this ad on Craigslist, this is in Prescott Valley....the town next to me. I am in tears because I don't have the space right now to save any/all of these rats, not until Ryan and I get our own place, then I can start rescuing/rehoming unwanted pet rats.

Those rats (1 mom and about 5 roughly 13 week old babies) are stuffed into a "Critter Keeper", smaller that a 5 gallon tank. I cry because I see these sweethearts all being snake food. I see what could have happened to "Ralphie", my hairless rescue rat, if I hadn't saved him.

I don't understand why people see rats as "garbage".

"12 Free Rats to who ever wants them come and take them ALL and PLEASE BRING A BOX OR SOMETHING TO PUT THEM IN we have way to many right now and 9 are hairless 2 are semi-hairless 1 is hooded with hair i have 6 that are all brothers and the are fighting to much so they need to go 3 have battle wounds from fighting i dont care if you keep them as a pet or use them for feeders just e-mail me if you want them THANK YOU"

Hmm, Amy do you think they're fighting because of the lack of personal spaces or is it an aggression issue? I would take them but 1. I have no place for quarentine 2. I wouldn't want to add more than 1 or 2 in the 695 and no money for another cage 3. Prescott is a bit far to talk Errik into driving me.

Honestly, that looks like another staged picture to me. There's no food, water, or visible poop in there. I'm betting they put them in there so it was easier to get a picture of all of them, and maybe to get more people to think it's an emergency and they need help ASAP.

Although it does say they can go for feeders.:(

I'm not trying to criticize or anything, but maybe you should stay of Craigslist for a while. You've already said you can't take in any more, even temporarily, so looking at ads like this is just going to break your heart.

I go onto Craigslist and check daily for a lady at work. Her and I work together to email people who are trying to rehome their cats, to get them to surrender them to Miss Kitties Cat House, a cat rescue here in Arizona. She is a volunteer there, and I help that way....since I can't volunteer because I don't have the extra time when they would need me for certain days/hours.

It may be a staged picture, but it also could not be. Either way, these rats aren't getting the appropriate care.

I do beleive the fighting is from cramped quarters, or the person is just throwing rats into cages together without doing intro's.

Yep, I can't take in anymore right now, but I still look....even if it does break my heart. Hopefully Ryan's promotion will go through by the end of this month, then we will be saving and finally renting our own 2 bedroom house around May (before his brother comes home for the summer)...then I will have a full animal room to take in a limited number of rescue rats :).

THis goes for non-rabbit pet posts as well....

I'd like to seeCraigs List posts kept to a minimum on here, thanks, and without critiques of the people posting the ads.

If there is an urgent case needing attention, you can make a case for the pet needing help, but please refrain from criticizing the poster in the process.

That's not doing the rabbits any good.

:thanks:

sas :(

Sorry, Pipp, but this wasn't a "Rescue Me" type thread. It was to let everyone know what some people do to pet rats, because they think they are "nothing".

I highly doubt these poeple know about RO, and I also didn't link their ad.

Sorry Amy, but if even a fraction of our members were cruising Craig's List for sob stories in their area about their favourite pets andlamentingabout it constantly in here, this forum would be an extremely depressing place.

Many members are finding it upsetting and they're letting us know.

You've been requested to refrain from doing this. I'd really appreciate your cooperation.

:thanks:
