:) ;) I'm sitting outside enjoying the cooler weather here today. It dropped down to 36C! Getting new tires on my car and happy to be outside during our freak "cooler" weather. :)

Uff.... where are you coming from and it dropped down to 36 degrees what was it before? 😱

What do you think of their holiday house 🏠?

As it is summer 🐝 time I think they will also sleep outside sometimes. Just now they cuddle up in their little hutch at the very early morning and the rest of the time they also sleep in their littler boxes in the walk in enclosure.

All last week it was around 42/43 C.

The holiday house seems a little snug for 4 rabbits for 3 weeks. If it was 1 week, I'd think it's fine. Hopefully they'll be ok with it and they won't get irritable with each other.

They look so stinkin' adorable in the little house!! On a separate note, it appeared that there were a few entire carrots in there for them. That's quite a lot of carrot. It could cause a sugar overload which could lead to GI stasis.

That is indeed a load of carrots! There were at least three that were visible! Just poking at you, did you think they would fight over their food so everybody had to have a carrot of their own? No, but all jokes aside, one baby carrot is more than enough of a treat for all four! Awh what snuggabuns!

Hi,
They normally don’t get that many carrots 🥕 but due to the high temperatures the carrots 🥕 were about to get bad so I gave them a little more this time rather than needing to throw them in the bin.

Our holiday is only for a week, 8 days to be exact.

Uff 43 degrees I would melt.

Our rabbits live outdoor during all seasons and have a big walk in enclosure and a little hutch, you can see it on my other thread “ new rabbit owner”

So I finally provisionally build it and got it all together.
It’s tight but probably doable with some extra space every now and then.

What are your thoughts?
Eve
Sorry to say this but that hutch is too small for four rabbits. 😒 I do not like that hutch at all.
Can you build a bigger hutch? And can I see their litter box and food and water bowls?

Edit: Sorry, I didn't read the whole thing. That hutch looks good for traveling. :)

That hutch is only their holiday hutch for one week and they are not locked in at night they can choose weather to sleep in the play pen outside or in that hutch all cuddled up together.

We can’t build a bigger hutch as it need to fit in the car together with all the other stuff too.

No you can’t see the litter box and water bowl etc. as that was just to demonstrate and show for a picture. We are not on holiday yet

Honestly, it would be better to throw them away then give too many. The general rule of thumb would be that a 1" slice would be the max amount per rabbit per day. So even just one carrot would be too much if split among all 4 rabbits. I would not suggest offering an entire carrot because one rabbit could eat the entire carrot . That's tons of sugar for one rabbit. If you cut 4 separate pieces -- one for each rabbit -- it would still be advised to hand feed them so that one rabbit doesn't hog them all.

Some rabbits seem to have an iron stomach and can handle more junk, but some will slip into GI stasis from eating half of a carrot.

A lot of times my bunny’s don’t get any carrots 🥕 at all even for weeks, so if they have once a few more peaces I don’t think it’s so dramatic.
And so far they never had any problems, it all depends a load of times on how you wean them onto new stuff and if u start early the more robust they get too.

Maybe most of your bunny’s are quite sensitive to it because they ended up in a shelter before and weren’t obviously so loved and were just not weaned onto vegetables and herbs at all? And were just given the wrong diet all together and suddenly someone comes along who Safes them and love them.

As mentioned, it can depend somewhat on the rabbit. I had one years ago that snuck sausage, salmon and chocolate and seemed no worse for it.

As for the high sugar in the carrots, it is actually worse if they don't have any for weeks and then suddenly get a lot. That causes a sudden surge in sugar levels which can cause a sudden growth of bacteria which can then upset their bacterial balance. Makes no difference if or when they were weaned onto veggies, it's just the potential upset of that bacterial balance in their gut which can fluctuate wildly (and dangerously) if suddenly given a bunch of sugar.

If they can handle higher sugar levels, it is safer for them to have it consistently rather than as feast and famine. :)

Sorry, I didn't read the whole thing. That hutch looks great for traveling. I was just worried about it being their full time hutch. That's great you are taking your bunnies along. Good luck and have fun on your trip! :)

Anyway I got your point and I will keep it in mind.
Thanks for that

That’s what it will look like when the weather will be windy or very rainy, they will be underneath a roof already.

The pic below shows them lying in the new house 🏠

Food and water 💦 bowl will be in the play pen! Next Friday we will be heading towards our holiday house and then I will send some pictures of it again, maybe we changed it all once we arrived and have them in the big shed who knows 🤷‍♀️
Eve

We arrived in our holiday house and we decided to use the shed for our four rabbits. We are in the middle of a forest and wanted to keep them safe for wild animals.

We were able to take two play pens with so they have 2.40m by 1.20m, but placed the house in the play pen.

Hiya,
We are back from our one week holiday!!! We were in the middle of the forest 🌳 and had no signal/ network at all, which was a good break from Corona news too.

We decided after arrival to set up their holiday hutch in the shed, as I saw a fox on the way to our holiday house 🏠 and found it much safer to have them locked behind a wooden door at night.

Luckily but also sadly for us, the temperature dropped down a lot and it was very cold, so we had no issue with having them in the shed and high temperature build up.

I think it was 5 afternoons we took their play pen outside so they could enjoy the garden too while supervised.

All together it worked out really well but was more difficult than I thought it would be. You needed to pack a load of stuff just to take the rabbits with, luckily we had the shed we were able to use too and no high temperatures etc.

I ended up needing to buy more pallets as I needed to clean their toilets more often. And I found that straw is much better in litter boxes than hay due to it being coarser and pee and poo falling through. I only took hay with as I wanted to safe space in the car and also just to make sure to have enough with me too.

But it was great to have them with us!

Take care
Eve
