My firned's three year old rabbit seems to have Hock Sores but he is not sure.

I saw the rabbit and all four of its little feet are fur-lesson the bottom and it looks like its spreading to the top of its foot. She keeps licking her paws, and I think she might of licked them raw.Can some one give me some helpful tips on how approach this problem. Naturally the best option is to take the rabbit to the Vet but my friend wants a general idea on whats going on with his rabbit.

Should my friend use Neosporin? I told him to hold off on useing it because the rabbit might lick it and die. I know nothing about rabbits so if some one can help it would be awsome.

Thanks Josh.

P.S. could the rabbit have hock sores? If so, does the rabbit have to visit the vet? Is it life threatening.

Welcome Kingspine!

Is your friend's rabbit on a wire-bottom hutch or cage? This is a main cause in rabbits feet. Especial. The fur on their feet is fine and thin, and wire bottom cages are rough on most rabbits feet. :D

Actually, since it's spreading to the top of the foot it sounds more like a fungal infection. The bun will definately need a vet visit.

It is okay to use Neosporin on rabbits, as long as it's not Neosporin Plus. The extra ingredient in the Plus can upset their stomachs.

Keep us updated! I hope the vet can figure out what's going on.

Welcome to the forum!

Finding the cause is the most important.
Wire bottom cage? Wet bedding? Litter pan not changed often enough?

Are there any open sores??

Treating it may be simple. Neosporin is ok to use. Bag Balm, too!

Peroxide can be used for initial cleaning, but will hinder healing if use is continued.
White iodine can be used.
If it's a fungal issue, there are OTC anti-fungal treatments that can be used.

Once again, finding the cause is key......otherwise it will continue to happen.

If you get some pics it would be easier for us to give proper advice.
