well, it looks like i am taking a trip to the vets in the next day or 2. . .

when i got herman back, i was checking out his ear and saw that there were lots of nicks and scratches on them. . .he is an english lop, it happens. . .all have healed but 3.

the first is right in the curve of his ear, it is now a lump, rather small, so i think it abscessed. . .the second is near the first, and it looked like a small white-head when i saw it first, i barely touched it and it came right open, so i drained it (it was VERY small. . .so i wasn't to worried) and kept it clean, well, it has grown now and i am thinking that it abscessed as well (even further) the 3rd is near the tip of his ear and is small enough that i can't tell if it is simply a healing scar for if it is filled with pus. . .all 3 are very hard.

it could be scar tissue, i have seen it before, it happens rather easy to their ears, but i don't think it is. he is eating, drinking, and playing as normal. i have been checking his ears 2 to 3 times a day every day just to watch to see if this is something to be worried about, and they had stayed the same for the most part, but in the past 24 hours his ear has become bothersome to him, i can't even touch it without him flinching and running away. . .and it is red. . .i was just looking at it. . .so first thing in the morning i am going to call and hopefully get him in and looked at. . .

now, i am just stumped because i don't want to take winnie with me, butherman really freaks when without her in a car. . .i normally have to end up driving with him in my lab grinding his teeth loudly. . .

Poor Herman! He sure has been through a lot.

If I were you I would take Winnie with you if you can. I always take Basil with Max to all his appts. It makes him a lot more at ease.

Get well soon Herman! I hope its nothing too difficult to treat.

thanks haley, yeah, it sounds like i am taking both of them in, i just hate to split them up.. . herman worries about his winnie when she isn't around and winnie the same. . .it will help keep him calm at the vets i think. . .

yup, herman is going between 2 and 4 as a walk in at banfield.

his normal vet isn't banfield, but my parents started to take their dog there, i was so impressed that i think i am going to switch vets, as banfield is A LOT cheaper then my other vet. . .

we will see how it all goes. . .

well, are you ever glade that you were an over-worried bunny mom? i sure am. . .

i love the banfield dr. and am making the switch full time now.

the lumps in herman's ears are just damaged tissue, i have been told to watch the larger one, as it may have some puss in it, but he didn't want to poke it with a needle yet.

the reason why herman's ear has been bothering him is he has a mild ear infection. . .thank god i fallowed my gut and got him in, because i really didn't want to deal with a bad infection.

i have ear drops to give him 2 times a day, he just had his first application and they didn't feel to good. . .he went running away from me and to my mom (with a "grandma! grandma! save me!" look on his face), but felt better once i rubbed if for a while and he got a dandelion green. . .

another appointment in 10 days. . .hopefully all is cleared up. . .

So glad you got it before it got really bad. Hopefully, the ear drops will help, and they won't be too painful for him! Take care, and never feel bad about worrying about your babies! We're supposed to take care of them...that's why we're bunny moms!....:)

yeah naturestee, i am also glade that they aren't anything. . .

just gave him dose #2 and managed to only get 1 bite in the whole thing(thank god i had him wrapped in the blanket, the whole time he was bitting the blanket. . .

one good thing that came out of this, is the vet took the time to shine the light in herman's ear and show me what to look for. . .so next time i am shopping i am picking up a little mag-light to keep in the buns room. . .that way if i suspect an ear infection i can at least look and get a general idea. . .

Im so glad you caught this early! I wonder if its something he couldve picked up at the shelter..or if his ears got dirty and just werent cleaned or something.

Poor guy :(

i am glad i caught it to. . .i was thinking the same thing. ..that maybe he was just so stressed out while he was gone the his immune system couldn't handle being exposed to so much?

my poor herman. . .

this morning he gave be the fright of my life. . .i went in to grab him to give his drops and he is doing a dead bunny number as winnie groomed him. . .i opened the door and was scared as he continued to lay there, didn't get right up to see what was going on. . .i don't think i have ever opened the door to the cage and had herman still laying down. ..then i went and petted him, he didn't move, his eyes were open, but he didn't get up. . .so now, i am doing everything next to picking him up to get him up. . .i refilled their food dish: nothing. i gave them hay:nothing. . . i am almost crying at this point because he isn't moving around like he normally does and finally i reached in and started to pick him up. . .he suddenly flung up and gave me a dirty look. . .the minute i pulled out the fleece blanket, he started to dig around his cage, tipping his food dish over, flinging the hay around the cage. ..the minute i picked him up he (he was wrapped in the blanket at this point) he started to rapidly attack the blanket and when he wasn't doing that he was grinding his teeth loudly. . .looks like he already knows that when the blanket comes out it means a vet trip, or worse. ..his meds. . .

my poor baby just didn't feel well, and didn't want to put up with anything. . .although he did really enjoy the ear massage after his dropps were put in. . .

he sulked right back to his cage and is sitting hunched in the corner. . .

it seems to bother him to run around, i can only imagine, as with his ears so long it constantly drags on the floor.. .must feel like having a burn and constantly hitting it. . .

and this is only a minor infection. . .i can't believe what some of you all have had to put up with with major infections and such. . .

Oh no...poor Herman! I'm so glad he was fine when you saw him lying in his cage (when they do that and don't move it can give you a heart attack, can't it?!). His poor ear...I hope it does clear up soon. Raph has a small bump on one of his ears too, and I believe it is from either him scratching his ears at one point, or perhaps back in the summer when he was running about the backyard. It doesn't take much for an English lop's ears to catch on things like bushes. It didn't get infected, thankfully, but e lops' ears can be so sensitive. I do have to clean out his ears about once a week or he gets a buildup of wax in the canal...I got some ear cleaner from the vet and put a few drops in the canal, massage it and then remove the wax that has softened and come up to the top. And he HATES it...!
he went running away from me and to my mom (with a "grandma! grandma! save me!" look on his face),

aaaaaaaawwwhttp://www.....Ihttp://www.....Ican just picture that! LOL You've become the big bad mom with the nasty medicine...;)

Hugs to Herman, and I hope his ear is feeling better very soon!

Nose rubs to Herman! Here's hoping he's better soonest! It is sooo scary when they just lay there and don't move.....totally freaked me out when Pumpkin did that last week! Take care and get well soon, Herman!

i think he is starting to feel better already, the vet called today to check up on him (did i mention, i LOVE the banfield vet. . .) and i said everything was good, but the drops were really bothering him for the first 5 minutes there were in his ears. . .he said that was normal and that i would see him next week. . .

i think i am going to get my brotherto recordme giving herman his drops, it is hard for me not to laugh at this point as he attacks the blanket with such rage while he is out. . .i know it shouldn't be funny, but i have never seen him act like that. . . and it is cute because i have begun to see that he is carefull to attack the blanket, but not hurt me at all. . .
