Berri has yet another abscess.:sigh It's quite big, it's in her dewlap this time. Do you remember when she had the two not long ago? (one in her head pushing her eye out and one on her jawline)

I think this might be something to do with the one she had removed from her jaw, I had a feeling it wasn't taken out right, this one seems to have moved down from it.:(

I think it's a good thing that it's in her dewlap though, should it not make it easier to remove? I think it's too big to be drained like the last one.

We can't get her to the vet today because my mum doesn't drive, and dad can't take her in the evening because we have to go see my little brothers Christmas play tonight (Myother little brother is doing his in a few weeks, and he's a black rabbit in it!:D) So we're going tomorrow evening.

It doesn't seem to be hurting her, no teeth grinding or anything, but I'm sure it's annoying, she can only wash herself with one hand at a time because it's in the way.:cry1:

Why does this keep happening to her!?!:cry2

Hi Michaela,

So sorry to hear that Berri has another abscess :(.

Binkie had one in her dewlap too. The vet said that it stayed encapsuled and didn't root into anything.....which made safe removal possible.

Hi Jim, that's what it feels like to me(although I'm obviously no expert:tongue:). Like it's not really joined to her face, or her bone (last time we were there he said he had to put a bunny down because it had an abscess growing into it's bone:cry1:)

Does removal by surgery mean there's less chance it will come back, because it's more likely they'll get it all out?

So how is Binky now? Did she recover well, and did it ever come back?

Binkie's started out being about the size of a peanut and moved around freely in her dewlap. Whit in a few weeks it had increased to the size of a walnut and made her dewlap look HUGE.
The vet told us that she would prefer to surgically remove it and if it was fully encapsuled there was less likelihood to infect the surrounding area. She didn't even want to do a aspiration biopsy because just by pulling the needle out it could cause it to spread.

We still have to keep checking her. Some bunnies carry enough of a pasturela strain to cause recurring abscesses. So far we're still good.

Binkie recovered very well except that she pulled out the stitches. And then after she healed and we took the hood off, she promptly chewed a big hole in her dewlap. She "re-chews" it about once a month now. Vet thinks it's OCS.

Berri must just be one of those bunnies then. Oh I hope once we get this sorted that will be the end of it.

Poor Binkie, at least there's no sign of any more abscesses:)I'm kinda scared to check Berri, i'm worried I'll find more, the worst one was the one on her eye, the eye bulged out soo much:(

She's not the prettiest of rabbits at the minute, what with the huge dewlap and her eye still not right:(

Abscesses have little tentacles, it could be that then they did the original surgery, there was the end of tentacle left behind, and it formed it's own abcess.

Here's hoping there's an easy fix for little Berri.

Let us know how it goes.

Its good if its not attached to any bone/teeth/hard area. Basil had one in his cheek. It felt like a little marble and I could move it around so I knew it wasn't attached to the gums or anything.

The vet just put him under, created a small incision, and popped the whole thing right out. If they get the entire abscess, theres no need for antibiotics (or so my vet said). Basil healed right up and has been fine since.

I hope Berri is okay. Maybe some strong antibiotics would be good just in case.

Let us know what the vet says!

Thanks everyone, looks like we can't go tonight either, my dad said he can't bring his car home or something, I don't know, until tomorrow:XI have to do a lot of revision tonight anyway, I have 3 exams tomorrow.

Haley, I'd imagine they will have to give her antibiotics, because it's big, it actually feels all bumpy, maybe two joined together:shock:

Sas, that seems likely, I hope if they remove this one by surgery, they get it all.
