I am new to breeding rabbits and I'm wanting to breed Flemish Giants. I found a person selling purebred Flemish Giants with pedigrees but none of the parents grandparents are great grandparents are registered are they useful as a breeding stock if nothing is registered. Or how would that work out? Thank you for all your help

Registration in rabbits is not like how it is in other species. If you are in the US people can register their rabbits but it doesn’t really mean much other than you know on paper the rabbit has a known background with records. Most people will only register rabbits to get them grand championed and that might mean something but it depends on the breed they have and the location.
If you know the breeder has a good reputation and you have seen the rabbits in person and was able to do a thorough health check then you’re probably fine if you want to buy them.
Now If you are wanting to show them you need to do more than just a health check and I would probably recommend going to a show in your area and listening to the judges while Flemish are being shown. You can’t rely on a breeder to sell you good rabbits you also have to become educated yourself or else you may not get anywhere

So I just seen your reply but I bought them today and he does show his rabbits but on the paper work there isn't an ear number listed for any of the generations is that an issue and I'm going to ask the person tomorrow maybe he made a mistake?
What’s your intent with the rabbits? If you want to show then no ear tattoos on the perigee means you can’t register them or the offspring. If you aren’t showing then it isn’t as important. Tattoos do help identify your rabbit if you’ll be getting more and breeding though.

That’s really odd that he doesn’t have tattoos listed for the pedigree and he shows the rabbits. If you are looking to sell the rabbits to show people he needs to provide you with proper information especially if you paid for show quality animals

In New Zealand, most proper Flemish Giant breeders have pedigrees for their buns, but my doe and buck don’t and their babies always get presold before they are even ready to go to new homes
I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to sell the babies easily Rachele, I wouldn’t worry too much as most people have them as pets and Flemish giants have the awesomest nature and character

If the future parents have pedigrees, I wouldn't worry about their grandparents. They obviously have a pedigree because they are purebred, so the previous generations should be too. I'm really interested, how old are your flemish giants now and what are their weight? I would love to compare to my kits

I've got two left, going to their new homes when 12wks old. they are 11weeks old today and the biggest of the two is just under 6 lbs, the smaller blue one is 5.5 lbs. they are both girls.

I'm probably going to start a war bu saying this but I'm going to anyways just for your information as you are new and trying to educate yourself.
I will first off tell you I'm in Canada and have been raising and showing since I was 15 so 27 yrs approximately now I have Holland Lops, English Lops, Rex, Flemish Giants, Netherland Dwarfs and Rhinelanders. I will first off tell you that if a breeder has not given you all the pedigree information than you should contact them to ask for it. I read the breeder does show you wrote so in fact by A.R.BA or Dominion clubs tattoos are required in the left ear and the right ear is reserved for a registrar and this is only when you have got the required legs on the rabbit to GC (grand champ) the rabbit you can then register this rabbit with A.R.B.A you have to be a member in good standing of the club as well so you will need to go to the show and have a registrar exam the rabbit and pedigree and legs he won dont forget your paperwork for the rabbits you intend on registering so after the registrar exams everything and it is good they will then tattoo a registration number and the registrar R symbol in the rabbits right ear. It can become a long process to register all your rabbits so this is something each breeder does differently. The breeder you got your buns from should have ear numbers for the rabbits on the pedigrees if they don't then we know in fact they do not show or only at local fairs etc
This is where some breeders may disagree with me or others but a pedigree unfortunately is only worth the paper its printed on and I say this because it is to easy to make up fraudulent pedigrees and unfortunately it happens often now so while it's nice to have the bloodlines etc on the pedigrees it is not what you rely on when buying any rabbits you choose a breeder who stands by their animals and willingly answers your questions concerns etc and as far as knowing if the rabbits are purebred you can ask for help from another breeder but you need to educate yourself and do all the research you can to get to know your breed as it is up to you to know the lines are pure and this is not something that is going to.happen all the time but if.and when it does you are educated on your breed to know the difference and won't get something that is not a purebred rabbit of your breed.
