HELP!!! Rabbit chewed through cord!

First time rabbit mom here. Thoughtlessly, I neglected to put a cord protector on my phone charger and was charging my phone, when my rabbit chewed through the cord. It’s been about 20 minutes and he seems alright, no abnormal behavior, but I’m extremely worried about potential electrocution considering the bite he took out of it. Should I be immediately rushing him to my nearest emergency vet hospital? Please help!!!

I would just observe and check the mouth that it looks okay. I’ve had computer cords to phone phone charger chewed. The worse was the computer but nothing happened to my bunny except being a bit suprised.

Accidents happens, even though I bunny proof those teeth can move fast.

Check the cord and your bun(especially around the mouth). If there are no signs of scorch marks on the cord, and no sign of injury or swelling around your rabbits mouth and your bun isn't acting abnormally, there's a good chance it's ok. But as with any doubts or concerns with health issues or injuries, it's always best to consult with your knowledgeable rabbit vet. I can't say whether or not your rabbit was injured. You would need a detailed vet exam to determine that for sure.

There is always the potential from a frayed or chewed charging cord to result in serious electrical burns. But it doesn't seem to happen as easily with the USB cords, as chewing through owners charging cords seems to be a favorite past time for rabbits. But the potential risk is certainly there, so it's always adviseable to be very careful about cord protection and preventing your rabbits access to live electrical cords. Particularly normal electrical cords that are not USB cables. Now those I have read accounts of burn injuries from chewed cords, as well as being a fire hazard(a past RO member had a fire start from a chewed cord). So it's very important to properly bunny proof any area your rabbit will have access to, paying particular attention to protecting electrical cords from bunny teeth.

Thank you so much for all the advice. I called the vet and they recommended bringing him to a 24-hour vet hospital. Was a bit of a drive, but we made our way here, just to be safe. They just took the little guy back to get his vitals. Fingers crossed, everything’s okay!

This is a low voltage USB charging cord, right? If so, no danger whatsoever from the electricity, max voltage is just 5V. USB cables are their favorite chewing toy.
