Help! My rabbit keeps peeing on himself

My rabbit keeps peeing on himself. I have him pend up so he can't lay or sit in his pee. He had 2 UTI already. I'm not sure what to do any more. I chang his bedding once to twice a week. I do have to wash up his butt so he doesn't stink and so he doesn't get sores. Any suggestions for what I should do. He is 5 years old.

If he is peeing on himself he must still have the UTI. Is your vet rabbit savvy? Maybe the vet didn't give you an antibiotic that works. I would search for best specialist rabbit vet you can find and see if he can cure the UTI.

I will have to look around for a specialist rabbit vet. Who I go to is a really good vet, but they don't specialize in rabbits. I have trimed my rabbit's fur by the bum area. This seems to be helping a lot. I am still going to look around and get another look at my rabbit. Thank you for the help

I’m searching for good, safe, cordless clippers I can use to clip/shave hind area fur to help heal from urine scald. Can you recommend a set of clippers?

When did he have the other 2 UTIs? If he's peeing himself now, then it sounds like another UTI or there could be some other reason, but an infection, if present, is something that should be treated as soon as possible, and even if no infection, a diagnosis and treatment is still important. Also make sure he drinks, eats, and poops. If one of the UTIs is very recent, it's possible the infection didn't fully go away and you'll need another kind of antibiotic or a longer course.

My Lionhead bunny had an UTI every 2-3 months when he was old, but we managed to treat it everytime. It's amazing how fast a bunny can perk up after an UTI as long as it hasnt yet affected the eating too much and become a stasis too. Never give up.

This is an old thread. If you want further feedback on clipper recommendations it would be best to create your own thread to ask your question.

But like NancyMcClelland suggested, your vet treating your rabbits urine scald may be able to recommend some good ones. Though do be aware, rabbits skin is thin and can easily be nicked, especially if you don't have experience clipping rabbits. Just recently a members rabbit was nicked getting clipped by a groomer, and sustained a wound that needed stitching by their vet.
