We lost our beloved Bailey a day after New Year’s. Having loved and lost a bunny leaves a hole that only another bunny can even begin to fill.
So now we have our new bunny, Hazel, a sweet, lovable Holland Lop purebred!
She’s ten weeks old, is great with handling, and does well with litter training (with a few poops outside of litter pan, but most inside). She’s on mainly Timothy/Alfalpha hay mix and Timothy-based pellets throughout the day/night, and two romaine lettuce leaves at night for bonding (the leaves are ripped up in smaller pieces and hand fed to her). She also has a designated run area right outside her bunny condo, where she runs and binkies to our delight! Her run time is always supervised though.
We are loving our little Hazel. It was a bit rough at first, because I would still cry about losing Bailey even while holding Hazel, but I am doing better each day.
What’s important is that our daughter (she’s ten) is thrilled with Hazel, bonds with her daily, and the smile on her face and light in her eyes is back. We still miss our Bailey, and always will. But we are thankful that Hazel now fills our hearts with sunshine.
