Too me that is a LOT for a bale of hay, I only pay $5 for a bale

The other side with toilet paper wiped up from their pee and their poop also. Saw YouTube videos where they toilet trained them that way. But they seem to jump out of the tray to go to the toilet and then stay in the litter tray.

You need to have some litter/bedding for them to pee in. If you wipe up their urine with a paper towel, put that under the litter. They will smell it and then want to go there -- that's the concept behind putting the urine soaked paper in there. But they need a litter or bedding in the box.
This is where those wood pellets would go.

If you have loose bedding in the rest of the cage, that would only encourage them to pee on the loose bedding outside the box.

For timothy?? I've seen low prices on alfalfa hay or mixes of alfalfa(legume) & timothy.

For me, $2/month on hay is still super cheap--even at $16/bale. For you that would be about 60 cents/month!

Well, it's Timothy and Orchard grass mix. I have 9 rabbits and I have gone through 1/2 bale in two weeks, but there is no way I could afford $16 a bale, That's more than I pay for a 50lbs bag of pellets. I only pay $12 for a 50lbs of pellets but I buy 2 bags a month for my nine rabbits. I also have a few bigger rabbits and they get free fed pellets, they all get free fed hay.

People with only 1 or 2 rabbits are often buying their hay by the bag at a pet store. That is why a bale-- even at $16 per bale--, is waay, waay, waay, cheaper than buying by the bag. The following bag (96 oz) sells for $16 at Petsmart of Petco. And that size bag isn't even a single flake of hay!

Yeah, they don't understand that they are paying a whole lot more in the long run and they need wayyyy more than that in a day.

Young rabbits often have less than pristine litter box habits - after they're a bit older and spayed/neutered, fully litter box training them becomes much easier .

That’s me, buying hay by the bag - I would definitely be buying by the bale if I had the space!

Many places that sell bales will cut them in half or whatever on request, or you can pull off some flakes... even if you only took a fourth of the bale home and threw the rest out, it's cheaper than the pet store route! Another option is to buy a basic bale bag (online or where horse tack/supplies are sold) and keep the majority of the bale shoved into the corner of a closet or something - just pull off one big flake or two at a time to keep near where you feed your bunn.

This isn't the site I bought from in the past, just the first one to come up on Google as an example. It's 42'' x 18'' x 16''. If that's too big, you can also buy half bale bags that are 22'' x 22'' x 18'' and only take half the bale home. You're still saving insane amounts of money. Let's say you buy a 50 lb bale for $15 - that's 30 cents a lb. By comparison, the biggest/best value hay from Petsmart is a 6 lb bag for $15.99, or $2.7 per pound. A $50 bale at the pet store price per pound would be $135. Talk about price gouging!

I completely agree, and that’s the dream! Unfortunately in my Student house every inch is accounted for haha, just don’t have the storage options, but I can’t wait until I do, it will save me a lot of money (and hassle!)

Ohhh, yeah, student housing changes things, heh. Although... you could try calling horse stables in your area, if you've got the transportation to get there - explain that you're looking to get some grass hay for a pet rabbit and ask if they'd be willing to sell you just a flake or two off one of their bales (one flake is around 6-7 lbs). They go through SO much hay feeding horses that some places will just say you can have a flake for free . It never hurts to ask, anyway.

I’m all about buying by the bail but we have goats and donkeys too and a barn to store it in!

I purchase 1 bale every 3 months for 4 bunnies. I only pay $8 per bale in Florida. I store some inside in a large storage container to use daily and the rest in my garage or storage shed in a large outside garbage can. It saves me so much money! Will never go back to pet store hay!

Wow, that’s cheap! I paid $28 for a bale of nice, Green, Timothy hay this morning. I verified that is was t sprayed and even has lab test results. That’s a lot more than you pay but far less than pet store prices and definitely better quality.
