Happy in their hutches?

anyone else have bunnies that are extremely happy in their hutches? I know a quite a few of you on here have free roaming bunnies but unfortunately we have 5 so we can’t do that. However we let them out to play for a few hours in the morning and evening and they come out for 5 mins and stroll back in their hutches and flop I must say their hutches are spacious and allow them to binky jump and flop and all those lovely rabbit habits but I can’t help feel a tad guilty when I see other rabbit parents on Instagram or Pinterest who have free roam! I seem to have happy buns, anyone else’s seem happier in their safe place? X

Both of mine love their hutches. There spacious like yours big enough to binky and flop. I always let them out for awhile and there perfectly happy to run back in the hutch and lay down for awhile. I think as long as you let them out for a few hours it’s fine.

I used to have a pair of rabbit outside in a large multilevel hutch inside of a large double size dog run. When I was home all day, I would leave the door to their hutch open so they could go in and out at will. They would go out to the run in the morning for about 45 minutes and the same for evening. Most of the time they spent in their hutch with the door open, and even though their hutch was large, they would lay in the same spot and use very little of their space. Now I have different rabbits and they live in large dog cages in the house. They are all in the same room, and take turns getting out of their cages. They each get 6 to 8 hours of out of cage time every day. One of my rabbits likes to spend most of his time out of his cage, but the other two sit in their cages with the door open most of the time.

they may scared from some thing like noise.

i have to rabbit,one indoor and one outdoor but in hutch.

my indoor rabbit spent more than of 90% percent of her time out of her cage but some time she returns there for food, water and peeing.

my outdoor rabbit stay out of her hutch until the door open. but when she scared from any thing like loud noises.flying birds, returns to her hutch for a few minutes.

so may be your rabbits feel unsafe out of the hutch.

I did think that but they come out, have a run around and explore for about 5/10 mins and happily return to their hutches and flop and relax! They seem happy, as I said my hutches are super spacious and cosy lots of toys plenty of fresh hay, water and things to chew on. In a way it gives me peace of mind because I work long hours but it’s nice to know there are other bunnies out there who just feel super safe in their little dens

Is super quiet and peaceful, everyone who lives here is under strict instruction no sudden loud noises or movements around the bunnies so I don’t think they are scared x

Some rabbits also like living outdoors in hutches more than being indoors free roaming.

Myself had to build a hutch to my doe so, she stopped stressing and I could sleep without having a bunny making my whole bedroom to a mess.

She spends many hours in the hutch, jump outs when she wants to dig, eat grass or run around in the pen :3

So she’s happy, can even see her binky sometimes.

We have a garden but the thought of foxes finding their way to the rabbits terrifies me. Ive heard too many horror stories about foxes where I live (city of London) to even consider it. It’s such a shame.

We’re the same, I let mine out in the garden for a bit but can’t leave him outside because of foxes. A friend of mine lost her two bunnies this week to foxes and her cage looked so strong and had so many extra grills up

I live near the forest, so I have foxes here too. But I lock my bunny in during the time the foxes are most active and during the day my neighbors have their dogs running lose, so I’m not so worried. But I always keep an eye on my neighbors if they start to see foxes moving around nearby the houses. Then she will be locked up in the hutch and only be out while I’m out with her [emoji5]

Mine are inside/outside buns. If the weather is nice, we put the hutch outside and they love it. They prefer being outside in the hutch than inside in the hutch. We also have an enclosed run for outside we bought on Wayfair and its awesome, protects them from being prey and they can play in the grass alot. We also let them roam in the house, but they eat wires and I don't want to give up my home and bunny proof everything since they love being outside more.

My bunny also spends most of her time in her cage. I make sure to let her out for a least an hour a day just to do zoomies and jump around, but once I put her back in she doesn’t make a fuss and sometimes she even goes in by herself to flop and sleep! I wouldn’t worry too much if their behaviour is normal.
