He could be molting, as I haven't really had rabbits that shed as much as he does.. But I'm not sure, so figured I'd post here.. I've looked up pictures online and while it looks like small patches of molting... I'm not sure, and would rather be safe than sorry.

Crush is my three year old, neutered Holland Lop rabbit who I've had for about four or more months now.

It didn't start until after I got Callie(although he's always been a shedder). Ever since then, I've been noticing what appears to be clumps of fur missing - and it's not Callie doing it, because they're NEVER left unsupervised, and are caged separately. He doesn't appear to be piling it up anywhere, or anything. It's like he's over-grooming himself or stressed out.

His behavior is still normal otherwise, and there has been no change in his appetite.

I've checked him over and his skin is fine and healthy, he has no mites, no fleas I can find, no flaky or dandruffy skin, no inflammation. Just.. fur going missing and in some spots, it looks like he's had a bad hair day where it's all wonky and sticking up/out.

Ideas?

Could he be stressed and over-grooming or mutilating himself because of Callie? He's no as social as she is...

I just want to figure out any possible reasons so I can help him.

Do you have pictures.

Stress is the most common reason for molting but sometimes temperature and season will do it too. Rabbits naturally molt once a year. Overgrooming could also be a possibility especially if its to the skin.

actually, they molt four times a year, with every other molt being heavy (the lighter ones can easily go unnoticed as they're just a bit of extra shedding).
