Going on vacation... solo bunny

Hi All. I've read a few of the posts regarding leaving your bunny home & having someone come over daily. I will be gone for 1 week. Here at home we also have our two dogs. They will be with us. So, Daisy will be home alone. I've considered taking Daisy with me. But, it's a good 6 hour drive. Then we will be in our RV. My husband is going a week before me. Daisy is quite used to being out & about in the evening when we are watching TV. Her hutch is a very good size. I've asked my neighbor to come over twice a day. Should I worry about her getting lonely?

If your neighbor is coming over twice daily, she'll be fine. She may miss her time out but she'll be ok. She'll adapt.

If she gets an extra boost of enrichment with new toys and a bit of a shuffle, then it should be okay if your neighbour comes around twice to check her. Maybe you can coax them to stay with the bunny for some 10-15 minutes to chat interact and play, let her run around even for a short while, leave the classic radio playing or something so she will have that tad bit more of extra closure and interest when you're not around!

Thank you. I have fencing that we can put around her hutch so she has extra space & can play in her tunnel. Quite frankly I think she would be happier @ home vs. the long car ride with stops because of the dog's & the lack of space in our RV. This is her current situation...

We recently took a short two day vacation and I purchase this automatic feeder for our bun. This particular one was absolutely wonderful it worked perfectly and what I liked about it is that it had no outside buttons for bunny to chew on the buttons are on the inside. Just thought I'd pass this along..

Thanks! I had looked at something similar but wasn't sure if it would work.

Automatic feeders will only work for those more rare rabbits that will self-regulate their food. Most rabbits will eat as many pellets as they are given -- which is why we are to measure and limit their daily pellet amount. The automatic feeders allow them to eat as much as they want which could send a rabbit into GI stasis really quickly. If one has to leave a rabbit for a few/several days, it is actually safer to skip the pellets altogether instead of risking them eating too many. As long as their hay is unlimited, they'll be fine without any pellets for awhile.

[If a rabbit is still very young -- under 4 or 5 months -- then they may have more pellets.]

actually my automatic feeder allows you to measure how much you want to come out. He doesn't get over food with our feeder it has settings as to how much they get.
