I used to get *really* bad cramps, and my flow was *really* heavy, and I was not at all regular. When I was 17, my mom sent me to the doctor and had me put on the pill. The first type I tried, made me regular, but I still had the bad cramps, plus nausea every day when I took it. Switched types a couple times, with varying degrees of side effects, but I always had the terrible cramps.
About 3 years ago, I decided to try that one where you take the 'active' pills for 3 months, then one week of inactive for your period, but I just skipped the inactive ones. The last time I went for a checkup and to get my prescription refilled, my doctor actually told me that there was no reason I needed to do the placebos at all (which I knew already), and made sure to give me an extra pack so I wouldn't run out.
So I haven't had my period in 3 years! Woohoo! No bleeding, no cramps, no mood swings, no bloating, none of all the unpleasantness! I think I did gain a few extra pounds, but not too terribly much (the lack of exercise and overeating is more to blame for that). I've been taking the pill for half my life now, so I'm used to taking it at the same time each day, I don't really need my period to reassure me I'm not pregnant.
I really don't plan on having kids, I wish I could just get everything removed but insurance won't cover that unless it's deemed necessary.
