Hi Everyone,

My male bun only has three legs and we are thinking of getting another rabbit next week. Cosmo is not neutered so we would get another male, but we’re worried about them fighting. Cosmo will never be neutered because we decided it is not worth the risk of anesthesia for the second time. Does anyone have any advice on bonding male rabbits or do you think it’s best to keep Cosmo as a single bun? He has never been caged and is free roam in our entire house.

Imho, the chances of 2 males getting along are pretty slim. Somewhat better when both are neutered, preferably befor puberty hits (not a thing in the US seemingly). But intact, well, their hormones can really take over control when another rabbit gets involved,

I was in similiar spot years ago, when Herr Hase turned out to be a perfect house bunny, after a year or two I giot him a girl spayed. Now his successor Pacino and Dotty are my house bunnys, but the second Pacino lost his job because I rescued another buck I got him neutered too, enough is enough.

He needs to be neutered first. Then wait 8 weeks and visit a rescue centre where they have spayed females.

Meanwhile, you can try to give him a plushie rabbit as a substitute, some rabbits actually do get comfort from it. Had I known what I got myself into I would have gone that way.

About neutering before getting a spayed female (my little 8 month experience with an intact female as house bunny convinced me of never trying that again), technically you can live with an intact buck and spayed female, if everything they have access to is washable up to 3 feet, and you don't mind mopping up a lot or the usual hormonal antics that demand a lot of patience from a doe. Did that for years, do not recommend.

I might have understated it, but imho getting two males get along is pretty much winning the lottery.
