Hey there! We just purchased two rabbits and are first time owners - the plan had been to buy them over the summer for my daughter's birthday but the owner of a local farm told me she had some ready now and so we went ahead and made a trip. We have one dutch rabbit and one mini rex, both female (so I'm told, they are only 8 weeks). We will be on the boards looking for any tips on caring for these little ones, how to make their habitat most enjoyable, litter training, etc.

Make sure they are both female--rabbits do breed like rabbits!

Thanks! We were told they are both female and after they calm down and get used to us I'm going to check again. The previous owner did tell me if they were sexed wrong and one is a boy we can exchange it. Or obviously I could have him neutered. Do you suggest a certain age I have that done by? I wouldn't to wind up with a pregnant female before I had time to make sure it couldn't happen.

You need to separate them asap because if one is a boy it may be too late. Bucks can get neutered as soon as their testicle drop. You can spay does at 5 months and neuter bucks as early as 12 weeks. Here is how to tell: Sexing rabbit pictures!.
Here is a super helpful link for housing inside: Rabbits Indoors.

Thanks so much! I have tried comparing to the photos and I'm fairly certain they're both girls

Sometimes they will look differently in a few weeks so it is best to check again at 10 weeks, also at 10-14 weeks you can see boys start acting as boys they would start grooming girls and then humping them so just watch out for signs. usually boys and girls separated at 10 weeks but if they are from same litter you have a couple more weeks as boys can be fertile from 10 weeks but girls are able to conceive from week 14 usually, some from week 12. So you still have time.

I personally had two babies sexed wrongly and was absolutely sure he's a girl with the first and with other I thought she's a boy. So just check again at 10 weeks and again at 12 weeks to be sure.

Welcome aboard! I'm glad you decided to get into the wonderful world of rabbits. My fervent wish is that you read everything you can about these wonderful creatures and don't rely upon word-of-mouth advice. A good place to start is at the House Rabbit Society's Web page:

Another wonderful resource is the Mary Cotter and Amy Sedaris videos on YouTube:

Enjoy

The only regret that I have about keeping rabbits is that I didn't get started sooner. :)
