I recently bought two Netherland Dwarfs who I were told were sisters and are now around 12 weeks old, however, this morning I noticed that one was trying to hump the other so decided to check the genders just to be on the safe side and discovered that one of them is in fact a boy. I plan on getting him neutered in a week or so but I’m unsure what to do in the meantime. Should they be kept separate? Or would that upset them as they’ve been together since birth? And if I did separate them how would I go about introducing them again? All advice appreciated

Hi, it happens all the time it is great that you found out now. I would recommend separating them I never had experience with Netherlands as a small breed they can be slightly different. At 14 weeks a female has a good chance to conceive but it depends on many factors so just usually girls and boys are separated at week 10-12 to stay on the safe side.
You are lucky if you found a rabbit-savvy vet who'd neuter him at 12 weeks usually vets say to wait until 4,5-6 months and also depending on his weight

Craigslist is so dangerous. Please read some info about people buying animals from there and are abusive OR people get animals and put them there just for money.
If you end up with babies, please reach out to a local bunny rescue to help find them homes.

Well, I got my female bunny on Craigslist. The owner let me have her for free because she trusted me especially that I had a bunny already.
What about just putting a price on them so only serious people will want them and wont try reselling for money, or making them cheap snake food?
Well that's exactly why people from Craiglist are so dangerous. They can look good and have a perfect home for your rabbits but look at his history, their rabbits die too often, I had a family wanted my baby rabbit they looked very well and sent me some pictures of their daughter's bedroom with another rabbit very clean rich house, but facts were, she had two rabbits and one just died 'of tumor' so the other was lonely and needed a friend. After a little chat it came clear that actually they were rehoming a new rabbit avery 3 months or so over the past year. You don't want your babies to go to this rich and good looking home would you?

I got Bugs off of Craigslist almost a year and a half ago. Despite doing extensive research, I had no idea there were such thing as rabbit rescues. I was 13 without a job and I doubt a rescue would adopt out to someone like me in the first place. I came across Bugs's ad and I messaged the woman and told her that I was 13 with no job and had to use my very small allowance to provide for him. She looked past that and saw a loving owner. I'll forever be grateful that she did that. Bugs and I have been through hell and back and I don't know what I'd do without him. I'm now a couple months from being 15, I have a job and steady income, and even a 2nd rabbit (that was adopted from a rescue). What I'm getting to is that there are people who are looking for a snack for their snake but there's also people who just want a sweet little bunny to love. That being said, personally I'd avoid selling an animal on Craigslist but I don't see a problem buying an animal from the site. My mom was looking for a dog and got scammed hard so I'd definitely be cautious and understand what you're getting into

People will also not spend money on something they can get for free. Adding a price (unless pure bred) will only leave the owner with them in the long run.
I’m glad your story was a success when it comes to Craigslist but it’s an exception. Most of the time true bunny people will go to rescues and not Craigslist. With all the bunnies in rescue or shelters, there should not be a high demand on Craigslist- unless those people have been red flagged from rescues for terrible reasons. We hope all people are good to their animals but in reality there are more bad pet owners than good ones.

I’m so glad you had a great experience! I’m just saying to be cautious. At 13, you don’t know what you don’t know. Learning about rescues and stuff comes with time, age, pet ownership and research. You wouldn’t have known about rescues had you never experienced this. We saw an ad in the pennysaver for a white mini male at the animal shelter. I went there and got us our 4th bunny and we named her Nik-Nik--showed the people at the shelter how to tell male/female if no genitals are showing and told them that males can suck their extra bits up inside.
Rather than a demand, Craigslist usually has tons & tons of rabbits - at least by us. This is a bad thing because it means that people are having trouble even giving them away. There are too many. Most are from irresponsible breeding or 'oops' litters.
It's really a shame because those freebies often keep people from adopting from rescues.
Occasionally on craigslist there will be an owner looking for a good home for a rabbit they can't care for anymore. They tend to ask higher prices but it's hard to compete with free (or near free).
Replying to the original question - Since they are bonded I would just put a divider in. So that he can't hump her but they can still lay next to each other and interact. If he is getting spayed in a week they should have no problem re-bonding in that amount of time. I would put him back in with her right after he is neutered it will help him recover faster. Just make sure that neither of them are messing with the stitches.
