Feeding

Just curious, How do you all feed pellets. Say you are feeding pellets and you feed a cup a day. Would you feed that cup all at once in the morning or would you do half a cup in the morning and half a cup at night?

Kind of just want to know what you guys do as I feed half a cup to my dutch daily and I do 1/4 a cup in the morning and then another 1/4 a cup in the afternoon. Is there another suggested amount? Is another suggested way?

I feed my rabbit pellets in the morning, then a few hours later I feed him veggies and through out the day he has hay to munch on. The pellets that I feed him is the red bag of Sherwood pellets. The amount is different than what I would usually recommend for bunny compared to other brands. On food bags, there is a a suggested amount on how much you should feed your rabbit due to their body weight .
Why I feed my rabbit pellets in the morning, he prefers to eat them then. He always has hay to nibble on 24 hrs a day.

I only feed the pellets once a day... at night to get them back in their cage.

Since this question is posted in the Rabbitry & Show Room section, is your rabbit being bred?
I wondered because of the amount of pellets. Or is your rabbit under 6 months of age? A spayed adult rabbit of that size would normally only be getting half that amount of pellets (1/4 c.) daily-- assuming there are daily greens and unlimited hay.

I feed in the evening. 1/3 cup of pellets each (for Himalayans). 1/2 cup a day sounds about right for a dutch to me, I used to have some. It all depends on the rabbit though, and the season - some of mine eat more in the winter, and some eat a bit more or less overall. Always keep an eye on their condition - if they are getting a bit skinny or fat, change the amount of feed.

I agree that it depends. For most of ours we gave a smaller amount of pellets in the morning and more in the late afternoon. Ours tended to eat more pellets when it was cold.

So if you feed your pellets in the evening, Do you feed anything in the morning? Just curious as I do want to start feeding all pellets in the morning but I feel like by evening they are going to want something and I don't what to give them at that time. Do you give anything in the morning @SableSteel ?

Most time mine get some twice a day, a small handfull thrown on the floor so they don't just inhale it. In the morning to get them away from my feet long enough to make breakfast, in the evening when I call them in from the garden - they come running.

Since now, in winter, only hay is available as staple food instead of fresh forage they get some veggies too twice a day, Topinambur, carrots, apples, kale, white cabbage - and if anyone can give me a tip how to make them eat pumpkin I would be grateful, I harvested enough to last through winter, but they don't eat it

Same schedule. They get all lovey in the mornings because they're hungry, so I get them half and some veggies before heading to work and the other half during the evenings. I change it up over the weekends, but having food a few times a day makes for a calm bunny.

To the OP, are your rabbits for breeding and/or show, or for something else? What you feed pet rabbits vs show rabbits would generally be different.
