False Dwarf?

So I've had my bunny for almost 2 years and where I got him they said that my bunny was a Netherland Dwarf. As he grew up I could tell he wasn't a regular Netherland dwarf as the vet told me he had out grew dwarf status. So what I'm wondering is if my bunny is a fake dwarf. I'll attach a 2 pictures of him when he was a baby and a picture of him now!

Im no rabbit expert, but he definitely does not look like a netherland dwarf. He doesnt seem to have the compact face or body. It is my understanding that they should still have good show standards even with being a false dwarf. So if he is a netherland dwarf, he has bad genetics (lookwise) for netherland dwarfs. I do not breed though, so @SableSteel might have a better answer for you

I would say your bunny can be a mixed breed. Quite often people will advertise or say netherland dwarf or dwarf bunny to make it easier to sell the kits.

My girl is a false dwarf and have longer ears than standards they are still growing. Bare in mind she’s only 3 months old and where I got her told me she would be a big girl. I already know her parents and the breeder use doe who are false dwarves to avoid get peanuts. Good quality they will still look like netherland dwarves but larger.

The thing with dwarf breeds is: Either they have one set of dwarf genes, that's True dwarfs. you get about half true dwarfs from a litter. If you use 2 true dwarfs for breeding you'll end up with 25% peanuts - which will wither and die within a few days. The rest, 50-25%, are False Dwarfs, still of the small breed but not carrying that semilethal dwarf gene. I definitly would prefer a false dwarf as pet over a true one, mostly for health concerns. I really prefer rabbits that look like rabbits.

Your rabbit does indeed look like a mixed breed, which actually might be a good thing.

I dont see anything that says netherland dwarf in this rabbit. False dwarfs are a bit bigger, and they do have longer ears, but they still have generally dwarf looking traits and are smaller and shorter eared than a normal rabbit. your rabbits just looks like a mixed breed

Personally to me he reminds me of the shape of a Flemish giant, but I bet he’s not that big. Maybe a dwarf and a flemish mix? This is a flemish giant that your bunny reminded me of
