Eye tumour - lower lid

Hello everyone,

My grandson bun has a tumour that ironically grew on his lower lid where he had a freckle. The vet says it's a tumour, attached to a gland. Nothing can be done,
He's too old to survive anesthetic. He's eating, still loves scritches, loves digging and he is still running laps.

My question to all you experienced bunny owners is what kind of treatment or diagnosis do you suggest?

I don't have experience with this but I think if it was my rabbit I would want a second opinion from not just any vet, but a expert rabbit savvy specialist vet. Also, how old is your rabbit, if he is over 9 years old I wouldn't do surgery but if he is only six I would still consider it.

Hi, Pudge is 7. He's in great health otherwise. His weight is dead on, his teeth are good. Everything is fine other than his eye lid. :/

7 is not too old for a rabbit to have surgery and be fine with the anesthesia, though of course there would be some risk with any surgery. If your vet is telling you that it is too old, then they are likely not very experienced with rabbits. In which case it would be better to find a rabbit specialist to check your rabbit. Prior to attempting to remove the tumor, the vet should be able to biopsy the lump and send it off to determine if it is cancerous. If it is not and the tumor isn't causing any problems for your bun, or growing in size, then it may be fine to leave the tumor alone. If it is cancerous or causing problems, then it should be removed, and it's best to have a very experienced rabbit vet doing the surgery to give your bun the best chances of getting through the surgery without complications.
