enclosure suggestions please

Hello. I have a 1.5 year old mini rex neutered male and I'm looking for some sort of fenced in enclosure for him to play in. He gets supervised free roam nearly all day when I'm home but since I've been going back to school lately I'm looking for some sort of pen he can have room to run in while I'm at school. He has a large dog crate as a cage and it measures 35in by 22in approximately. It is 24in tall. Are there any reccomended pens/fenced in areas to go around his cage that will give him room to run but so he can't jump over the side? I'm worried he will jump on top of his cage and then jump over the side of the fence or attempt to and injure himself. Any suggestions? I have a $75 budget preferably but if needed I will go higher.

X- pens work really good. Also, nic grids work well, because you can attach them to each other however you want. If you’re worried about your bun jumping out, you can buy a metal grate to put on top. I’ve seen a few x-pens that are only about 20 or 30 dollars, so you can have extra money for the grate if you need. This is exactly what I’m going to do for my bun once he is neutered and stops pooping everywhere I hope this helped!

Thanks! I found a nic grid and the way I would put it together, it would be roughly 34 inches high. Could he jump that?

Possibly.... but if you are worried you could get like a metal grate and put it over the top of the enclosure

He shouldn’t. My bun jumps up onto my bed then off, and he hasn’t gotten hurt. Also, rabbits bodies are accustomed to jumping and landing so he should be fine.

That is totally dependent on the bun and their surroundings. Storm used to escape 90cm about 38-40 inch? high flat walls put up for him, he would jump straight over at first, just barely, luckily didn't get hurt, but soon found that it was easier to use the armrest of an armchair so he needed less effort and thus stayed safe.
Lümi will sometimes still clear a 100 cm 40-42"? wall if he finds that he is missing something. He will parkour jump onto a grid blocking off the cabinet and then spiderman-climb his way over the wall onto my bed, soft landing. If busted on the act, however, he will sometimes try and jump over the other 90cm wall and he's cleared it couple times. The stuff we used to keep the panels straight might cause him harm if he jumps wrong but we cannot cover it for then the door of the said condo won't open. For the same reason a roof cannot be attached.
We just brought back the grid grate for him so he stays safe as Storm doesn't want to clear high walls any more.
All the jumps mentioned were just from floor level as their condos are flat flat flat. Not enough enriched but we cannot help the poorly avaliability of bunny enrichement.

I have a set of plastic screens which clip together that I put on the top of my cage so bunny can’t jump out. Similar to one in picture that you can click together but use them across the top.

Midwest pens are quite affordable & available on Amazon. They are made to clip to crates I have a 30” one for $37 but they have higher for slightly more. Just not sure about the crate being 24” you might need to put something to block him from jumping on top of there and out. You can also buy an additional 2 panels if you want even more room for $20

In the past I've used the Midwest pen that @NYAngela suggested with cardboard on top. It works, but it's a bit like having a huge prison cell set up in your house so I'm also searching for another solution.

I'm considering the plastic screens--the Tespo version was recommended)--but I'm on a budget and worried that I'll need more than one set to build a tall enough pen. I'll be watching this thread for additional ideas!

When using an ex-pen or similar, it is the placement of it that will prevent bunny from hopping on top of your crate as a launching point. Just be sure that the ex-pen sides aren't near the crate.

You could use more than one ex-pen as well (and don't go shorter than 30"). Here is an example of how an ex-pen can create a large area by making use of an existing wall. It could be even larger if you made use of a corner (2 existing walls).
