if you read my post about Korey's abscess, you know that the vet gave me medicine in tablet form. The day after I got it, I crushed it up and put it in some applesauce. Well, he ate some of that and decided it wasn't his thing. So today, I tried it in applesauce again, and he wasn't even interested in it. I tried another pill in baby food, and the same response from him. I don't want to keep wasting pills.. Does anyone have suggestions? Or ways you got your rabbit to take medicine?

I've always gotten liquid medicine that I can syringe to the bunnies.

Maybe try crushing the pills, and putting in something that you can syringe to him? He may not be too pleased about it, but that's better than not getting his medicine.

I always ask for liquid meds, too.

Here's what Pam posted about this issue in another thread...

If you get the pills, ask the vet for a "pill popper" tool, which deposits the pill at the back of the mouth. :)

My vet used the crushable Baytril and mixed it with a flavored syrup. What about trying some pumpkin? Most bunnies love pumpkin. I use Grenadine for Max, who fusses about all his meds.

I mix the meds with the syrup and syringe feed it to him. When you crush it in applesauce, do you use a syringe? Most bunnies wont just take it on their own. You just have to be careful to give them a little at a time so they can swallow :)

Maybe you could try crushing the tablet up and put it in a bit of fruit....you know..you just make a cut in a piece off ruit and put the crushed tablet inside.

I had to do this for myLulu,as i had taken her to the vet last week, but my usual vet wasn't there,so this other guy gives me baytril in tablet form...Lulu usually has the liquid baytril, anyway what i did the first few days was crush up the tablet and mixed it with water and syringed it to her that way,but i found it so much easier to crush it up and put it in a bit of fruit,i had strawberries at the time,so i cut a bit and put the crushed tablet in there and she ate it..i prefered doing it that way.

Also i'm not sure if the tablets taste different than the liquid, but when i was syringing it toLulu shewas acting just like a little baby not wanting to take her medicine, but when she has the liquid she takes it like a good girl :?

But you just got to make sure that it is something that Korey likes to eat..otherwise you will waste tablets, which you have already :)

I'm sending lots of healing vibes to Korey

I'm sure you will find it so much easier putting the crushed tablet in a little piece of fruit, just make sureit's a small piece,so you know he willeat it all :)

Let us know how it goes!

Not sure how big the tablets are, but could you smoosh one inside a raisin? I know all bunnies go crazy for raisins and craisins and it would probably mask the smell of the pill...

Let us know if you find something that works!
