I woke up at about 4:40 this morning and I wasn't sure why. My animals were all running around the house like crazy. I went to the bathroom and Henri was pacing back and forth in the hall. I couldn't figure out what was making the animals go crazy so I went back to bed.

My alarm goes off at 6:00 this morning and the first thing I hear is "Many of you may have felt the earthquake we had at 4:37 this morning". . . . .

No wonder the animals were going crazy! Come to think of it, Trinity was going a little nutty last night and kept trying to get out the door. . . maybe she knew something was up?

The earthquake was only a magnitude 5.2 and it was centered in Eastern Illinios but was apparently felt in seven states. . . Did anyone else feel it?

One of the guys I work with lives in New Haven and he said he felt it on his farm. I thought he was kidding but aparrantly not.

I felt NOTHING and am kind of bummed about it.

My brother and SIL live in Overland and Stephanie sent me an email saying ...

" It did wake up Jason (scared me a little. Since we had some in Seattle and California, I figured that was what was going on, but the bathroom floor didn’t budge and I didn’t feel the tremor in there, but the noises were familiar). I hear there was some damage to an area bridge, but have not checked the house out yet. It didn’t even set off the car alarms in the area."

You know - I thought of you right away as well on my way home as I was listening to the radio. Hopefully what we had is all of it. I suppose I can go without feeling an earthquake...

Here's our local news station: http://www.ksdk.com/It has a lot of the earthquake info as well and I'm sure pictures will follow.

On a side note, look at the "picture of the day".. Awww!

"Henry Milner had the feet of his son tattooed on his arm shortly after the baby was born nearly four months premature."

I did not personally feel it, but at exactly 4:40 am, our birds went nuts. I awoke because I felt our cat fly off the bed and heard him land hard before tearing off down the hallway; that's when I became aware of the sound of the birds flipping out in their cages.

My husband called me 15 minutes ago; he'd just heard on the radio about the quake, which, he said, hit hardest in/ aroundSalem, IL. (I once dated someone from that town;I assume that his family's still there.) I'm in the northwest Chicago 'burbs and didn't feel anything. But, as I've said, our two birds sure did!

Hey, the earthquake is on the news right now....

Strangely, that is the exact time I was in my laundryroom doing laundry. I was yelling for the kids to get up - my son's room is on the other side of that room and there is a door from that room to his room (my house is an old farmhouse).... anyhow....

I felt something but didn't think much of it - thought a big truck went down the road or a mini-jet went over (we live near a small airport) and then I heard - THUMP THUMP! from my son's room...... Tony.

Also, Clover was all hunkered down in her cage as I came out and Bo was on his bottom level doing the same thing in a litterbox. The dog was pacing and the cat was GONE..... (he goes to the bathroom towel cupboards during storms and such - lovely hairy towels we get then.. :?)

So.... when my son and hubby phoned laterto tell me about the quake, I remembered how they all acted funny......

I'm sitting here at the computer by a window. It's going to rain and it's windy outside. For a few seconds I thought I felt a "vibration" and decided that it couldn't be...

My sister in law just sent me this message (not even 5 minutes after I thought I felt something):

Wow. We just had another one. I am simply amazed at how long it took for the people here at work took to respond. My chair was shaking a solid 30 seconds before I heard reactions around me. Hm. I am planning on staying out of the elevator today! :)

Love,

She and my brother work in Clayton, for you guys familiar with MO.

WOW! I was in the laundryroom AGAIN and heard a rumble... wonder if that was what it was?!

I'm staying out of the laundryroom today LOL!

YOU started it!!

Yup, we just had another one a few minutes ago. You know, the funny thing is, my cats all freaked out, but it didn't seem to bother my rabbits much at all. My baby lop that is in the house was just hanging out in his litter pan eating hay, and once the shaking stopped I went out to check the ones in the barn. I think they were calmer than I was! The first thing that woke me up when the quake started was a shelf falling down in Hubby's den, and then I realized my glass-fronted cabinets were rattling. It even woke up my DH, and he is a sound sleeper.

I don't like this. . . I really don't. I know that everything is ok and I actually kind of wished I was awake to feel the one this morning but then I was in a meeting for the last one. . . I don't like it! I just want to go home and see my babies.

The news *just* said it was a 4.5 that happened just a little bit ago. Chester(?) schools in IL are closing at this point.

Mount Carmel, IL was the epicenter of that aftershock.

They said we could have aftershocks for a few days. most we don't feel (we've actually had like 10 already today - watching the news from Bloomington Indiana feed)

Yes, Leaf I am at fault ;)

You should check your homes for damage since it could crack stuff.

They also said this was the worst quake in 40 years for this area!

Man that is not what I wanted to hear. . . I don't like this! I know everything will be fine and I NEVER thought a small aftershock would freak me out but I want to go home!

People are either really scared or really Excited.... My family - we think it's really cool LOL!

My son's teacher told them her husband works as an engineer doing bridges and he was all wound up - wanting to see how his bridges held! He was happy! and not worried about their kids - of course she was taking the kids to safety!

We're the family that hears "TORNADO" and runs to the door to see if we can get a visual. :embarrassed:

Oh me too on that one! I love storms. . . I have always thought it would be cool to feel an earthquake too. . . It isn't really that I'm all that scared, more worked up really I guess. . . I have that stupid knotted feeling in my stomach and it won't go away!

I'm with you, angoragirl, the ground is not supposed to move! I feel that this goes against the natural order of my life, andI do not appreciate it. *stomps foot* I don't know why this has freaked me out so bad, it's not like it has done any real damage, at least not right around here. But the ceiling in my son's room has a big crack right over his bed that was caused by the house settling, and last night I ran in there and was jsut watching it like a hawk, scared it was going to fall.

I know this may sound odd. Being that im very far from you all. But I woke up last night and my bed was shaking.I thought maybe sparky was running through the house. Again I was half asleep and din't realize a 3 pound dog cant do that.

I think you guys sent it to me

Actually it isn't all that wierd I guess. I know they were talking on the news this morning about how you can feel them further from here then you can from Cali because there are not as many fault lines around here to absorb the impact.
