At night when I give Cocoa his hay, he is always really excited. He will do this head shake thing, I gues skinda like a mini binkie. But tonight after doing that a few times, he started really shaking his head. It was different than normal, his ears were flopping around. It seemed to me like his ears were bothering him because he kept itching them. Is this a sign that something is wrong with his ears? If I look at his ears myself, what might I see to indicate a problem?

Thanks!

Hi,

When you look in his ears they should be a nice pink, without excessive heat, redness and scabbing. I'll see if i can get some pics for you, i know i have some around here lol :D

Ear mites may be deep within the ear. There may be no obvious evidence of them unless the infestation is severe. They may cause discomfort as well as "crunching"noises within the ear as they dig and move about.

Inner ear infections can also cause discomfort.

I'd have the vet take a look inside the ear.

:yeahthat

Ear mites aren't always visible without a scope. I had that problem with my kittens, and the vet wouldn't have checked their ears without a scope unless I told her too. The mites were bad but were only deep inside the ear. It could also be a sign of an ear infection. I think that's the only symptom Bunnydude's Amber had when she had an ear infection.
