For those of you who remember...our bunn Dandi had surgery in June for an ear abscess. It was actually just outside the ear canal but as it swelled it ripped thru to the canal and started to drain...that was how we noticed it.

Anyway...the sugery went well..our vet surgically removed the abscess and sutured the daylights out of the wall of the canal and although we're watching a smallish lump lower on his jaw right now...he is healthy and and active.

My problem is this. He has been a total suck about his ear since the surgery. No one is allowed to rub it or pet it without sending him into gales of scratching. There was the normal bit of drainage from the ear at first for a few weeks. However I have noticed that every few weeks I will find a chunk of ear gunk that is a disturbing pinkish colour. I have checked the ear and it is a wonderful healthy color no redness at all in the area where the sugery was. Is this a normal colour for ear gunk? Is ear gunk normal in lops? I will try to photo a bit of it the next time I find some...it dries after a couple days and turns a fleshy color with les pink in it. We don't want to drag him to the vet again unless we have to...he pretty much lived there for the first month we had him...His behavior is completely outgoing and normal...and I have been doing full body scans with my fingers since the surgery to check for odd lumps or bumps and have found nothing...

Anyone have an opinion on what I should do? Or what it might be?

Thanks fromRunstonez!

Most certainly needs to be checked out by the vet.

I've had lops for many years andthey don't have any pre-disposition to ear problems any more than other breeds.

Because your boy has already had an ear surgery, he may be prone to additional problems and you'll want to keep on top of these issues at any point that you note something abnormal.
