2 years ago, Lucy had a huge cancerous lumpremoved (womb and oaveries also removed) The vet warned that it waslikely to come back, and if it did, Lucy would not be in pain. He saidthat Lucy would just feel more and more tired and would eventually justbleed internally to death. Well, this process has now started, and Iwas wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how I can make herlast few days as happy for her as possible? I want her to diepeacefully, in her own home, surrounded by people who she loves and wholove her.

She is sleeping almost all the time and eating and drinking very littleindeed. I am giving her Metacam (pain killer just in case) twice a day.She is no way well enough to go to the vet as she has had breathingproblems (which the vet has seen) for about six months. Taking her inthe car would stress her out so much, she would not make it as far asthe vet.

I'm so sorry to hear about Lucy - how is shetoday? I guess if you keep her environment calm and quiet, with lots ofgentle petting and soft words she will go in peace. I think hearing andtouch are the senses last to fade. All the very best for her lastdays...she'll be binkying healthy and happy at Rainbow Bridge whereyou'll see her again.

I'm so sorry. What an awful thing for both of you to go through!

A little heat could help make her more comfortable. You canuse a sock filled with dry rice and microwaved, warm towels, or asnuggle safe (animal heating pad). Soft comfy bedding is nicetoo.

Is there any chance a vet could come to your home? If itbecomes very painful and drawn-out, it might be preferable to have aless painful option on hand.

*hugs*

Thank you for your kind words. I don't think sheis in any pain, she is just sleeping a lot. She has had a couple ofsips of water this morning and I have made her up some baby rice. Shehasn't touched this yet though.

Earlier,Lucy did have the energy to go into the next room(our bedroom) to look for my husband who is at work. She has alwaystotally adored him. She is free to go wherever she likes in our home, but spends most of the time sleeping in the hall at the top of thestairs. Lucy has always liked to know where everybody is at any givenmoment and what they are doing! I will try the idea about warming sometowels. Her ears don't feel cold, but she does like to be warm, so I'llgive it a go. Thanks again. I'll be in touch soon.

love Helen X

Yes, but we have said goodbye every night forthe last week and every time we leave the house. We are just never surewhat we will find when we go in Lucy's room. This is really hard.

I have tried her on some carrot puree and she is not impressed at all. She has had afew more sips of water though.
