A warning to bunny owners: I bought a bag of oxbow hay cus I was in a pinch and it was FULL of foxtails. I’ve been pulling them out of my lionshead for two days now. They’ve gotten all over my place! I exchanged the bag and the new one had them too. These are super dangerous and animals have been known to lose eyes because of them. Keep a look out!78F81D92-2F6E-408E-984F-293EEC087E91.jpeg

We have ordered 25 lb. boxes of Oxbow western timothy for ages. Now and then some irregularities occur . I am super fussy about hay quality and have been so for nearly 20 years of bun guardianship.

Thank you for notifying bun owners of your findings in the smaller bags.

At one time I found ugly-lookin', foul-smelling, compacted clumps in Kaytee hay.

Typically we order 20, 25, or 40 lb. boxes of hay thru chewy dot com. Cjewy has decent to excellent fast service to our front porch. The larger boxes tend to be of lesser quality.

We have not been able to find decent local baled hay for a while in our area. Even with some baled hay from local growers, yuck items are found.

Thank you for calling out the items, strands, prickly fragments our rabbits should not be consuming. I hope your lionhead guy/gal will be A-OK

I too rely on Oxbow's 90 oz. bags of timothy hay. My complaint about them is that the quality and cut of the hay varies wildly from bag to bag and it's impossible to tell what is inside the bag until you open and examine it. I've had the same issue with other brands as well. Both of my rabbits seem to appreciate it when I can feed them a mix of more grass-like and straw-like hays.

Thanks for warning us. My little friend doesn't like timothy hay at all, so he knows more than we do.

Wow I’ve never noticed if there were foxtails in the hay. I’ve seen plenty of Timothy seed heads tho. I will try to watch for the foxtails in the future.
