Ah well, I can't read/speak Gaelic at all, but my husband has made a valiant effort to educate me some.

Hail to all the bonny Irishmen from an Irishwoman from USA (and Southern at that! lol)
One day I'll make it over there to connect with my clan.

Slainte!

:( Can't be ALL bad - have either of you been to America, btw?
Lol, it's just people have a very different image of Ireland then what Ireland is really like. I've never been to America but I'm dying to go!

Ah true, I don't expect it to all be rolling, green hills with people driving carts along the roads, lol - but from the Irish friends I do have, I believe the people are quite friendly and open. I guess it's rather like here in the States...people in the South are famous for the friendliness - and while that obviously doesn't speak for everyone, the majority of people here are very friendly and polite - course it's different in the big cities.

When I was over in Ireland last May, there were certainly lots of rolling, green hills, and lots of people driving along the roads... OK, they were driving Toyotas rather than horse carts, but still... I rode in a horsecart on Inisheer, so that should count.

Take a look at my pictures at my Ireland website and you can see. It was everything I'd expected, and more!

I'm going to go back again someday, for sure.

Yeah, I'm hoping to get over there someday before I need a wheelchair or cane, lol.
From everyone I know that's visited - it's a beautiful country, and great people..well, non-withstanding the troubles they have up North:( around Belfast.

Come to Clare, we have all the good stuff like Bunratty castle, the old Abbey in Ennis, Cliffs Of Moher and of course the Burren. Well you can see a castle every couple of miles in Ireland.

Careful - I might take you up on that offer!:D
Seriously though, if I ever get over there, I'd certainly look you up

Clare is a beautiful area - I really enjoyed the two days I spent there last year.

Bunratty castle, I never saw Bunratty, but Craggaunowen is also nice:

the old Abbey in Ennis, I stayed a night in Ennis - an interesting, and completely non-touristy small Irish city:

The Cliffs Of Moher are spectacular, if rather crowded:

But I think Loop Head, further down the coast, is even prettier, and completely empty of tourists:

and of course the Burren. "not enough water to drown a man, wood enough to hang one, nor earth enough to bury him.."

Pretty much anywhere you go in western Ireland is great...

Cool did you take the pictures? That pic of Ennis looks like it was taken near the cathedral. This is the abbey in Ennis, it's in the middle of the town lol

Yes, I did. There are more, see http://www.bpmlegal.com/ireland/clare.htm

I think I walked past the Abbey on the way to dinner - we stayed at a B&B on the east of town, and ate at the hotel on the left of the street picture of Ennis (the door with the two lamps), and I'm pretty sure our path took us right by the Abbey.
