Once in a while 1 of my rabbits seems to have trouble going to the bathroom. It hasn't lasted for more than 1 day each time and I haven't had to bring them to the vet but is there anything safe I could give them to help them go when this happens?

What kind of diet is he on? You want to be sure his pellets dont have any colored pieces or anything. Is he getting unlimited hay? That should keep the digestive system moving.

Rabbits can go into GI stasis very quickly. If you ever have a time where your bunny doesnt poop for 24 hours or so..its time to be worried.

All my bunnies eat pellets, green vegetables and they have unlimited hay. It has only happened twice with 2 different bunnies where it looks like they're trying to go but nothing happens and I know something is wrong when they won't eat a treat. It has only lasted for 1 night and then they're back to normal the next morning.

Do they still eat their pellets and drink when they go through this?

or are they just sitting there looking uncomfortable and not moving much

If so,they might have just had a bit of a gassy tummy, you can give them simethicone(baby gas drops) which helps wonders.

Here is a link on Simethicone.. http://rabbitsonline.net/view_topic.php?id=15551&forum_id=10]http://rabbits-forums.com/view_topic.php?id=15551&forum_id=10[/url]

Hopefully someone will come along who will be able to help you out more

What do you mean by 'trouble'? If the bunny appears to be straining, it may be trying to urinate, too, and having trouble, which could be anything from bladder sludge to kidney stones to a urinary tract infection, and you really need to see a vet.

If they're straining to poop, is it when they're moulting? Or do you mean they go without pooping at all?

I find that depending on your location, canned pumpkin is the best source of wet fiber (although I hear its hard to get in the UK), my guysget it when they're moulting or otherwise havinga system slow down.

And I have a bunny with occasional kidney issues that doesvery wellwith a littlediluted carrot juice to make her drink more. In bothcases (urinary and intestinal), the morethey drink, the better.

Let us know how it goes!

sas :)

They were straining to poop but it only lasted 1 night and they were back to normal the next morning. I was just wondering if there was anything I could give them if it were to last longer.

Simethicone- baby gas meds, and also use an animal or baby feeding syringe and feed them fluids like water or Pedialyte and a little food such as pellet mush- ground up pellets soaked in water.

What is their diet like?
