Okay, I’ve had this problem for about a month now. But it’s been on and off. We took him to the vet on the 13th of January the same day that I saw it. They said that it was conjunctivitis (in his right eye) and have antibiotic eye drops for it to use three times a day. And it took about 8 days until it was clear. That same day (13th January) I fixed what the problem was or at least what I think it was. I got new hay and made a hay rack for him. Then about a week and a half after, the problem came back and he started to lose hair on his eye. I have some more eye drops and the problem seemed to disappear, he started to grow his eye fur back. But now it’s come back. This is the first time I’ve seen it and I’ve been checking it everyday.
I don’t think it’s a dental problem because they checked his teeth.
Does anyone know anything else that can help with this?
Should I go straight to the vet or could this be a one off thing?

Maybe you don’t manage to kill off all the bacteria when using the drops, which lead it to blossom up again.

Because he responded positive to the treatment both times. But I think you need to get another antibiotic because the bacteria that survived will have gotten a resistance to the antibiotics you used. At least that what I think might have happened.

Maybe you also need to do a through cleaning and disinfect his living area.

So I recently went through this with my bunny, she went through 2 bouts of what appeared to be conjunctivitis or something similar. As soon as I finished the eyedrops it would start to act up again in a week or so. I've kept it under control for several weeks now. Oh also it was in both eyes, so I figured it could be something environmental since it was affecting both. Also she's always been prone to watery eyes, she's 10 now.

In my case I identified that there is a vent in the floor near where her hay rack was and that may have been contributing to extra dust being blown around? It was just a guess since teeth ears and all else checked out fine. I know she sheds constantly and there's always a lot of dust that accumulates quickly in addition to possible hay dust? So I Closed that floor vent that's next to her living space and it seems have actually made a difference. The other thing I'm doing is I give her a lubricating eye drop at least once a day. Nothing medicated.

So far all of this has helped so I don't know if any of this would apply to your situation? She has been fine for now and the fur is almost all grown back (for the second time!)

thanks! Just one question... would this antibiotic be okay do you think? https://www.amazon.co.uk/RenaSan-Ey...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Sorry I took awhile to respond but see you already got an answer, yes those drops look good. If the eye appears infected, definitely use the prescription drops, I have used gentamicin sulfate drops every time and they've worked well. I started using the lubricating drops after Oreo's eyes were back to normal. I also would clean out any crusting in the fur, and any discharge, gently of course, because that's what added to the fur loss in her case. Her cheek would stay wet and sticky and eventually (sorry gross) a scab of stuff would form and fur would come off. First time the vet actually removed this area of fur to start the healing process. Not sure how bad yours is. It's easily made worse by their excessive face cleaning when they are feeling this way. Oreo's eyes always looked clear, not red, so who knows if it was conjunctivitis, but the discharge was the issue.

Thanks! Apollo’s eye definitely isn’t infected. Ordering that later, (have to get my mum to do it but she’s out) Thanks! Glad Oreos better

Our vet diagnosed our Flemish Giant as having conjunctivitis and she prescribed Terramycin ointment, twice a day in the eye for a week. I hated to do things like that to my big beautiful boy; but, like the gentle giant that he is, he took it stoically. It made me love him even more.

The ointment seems to have done the trick. He still looks a bit bald around the eye; but, perhaps it is because the greasy ointment flattens the fur down to his skin. I'm convinced the full week protocol is necessary to kill all the bacteria. After about six days I found a white ball of matter under his lower lid. I'm guessing it consisted of dead bacteria and debris from his condition. Had I stopped treatment sooner that "clean-up" would not have occurred.

Instead of drops, give the ointment a try. I think it works.
