Hi All,

Just wondering what types of cleanup stuff you use.

I have a dustbuster for picking up stray poopie, and it works great, but hay gets clogged in there and I have to keep emptying it andstarting over. I'm wondering if there is a bigger, better oneor if I should just get a shop vac?

I'm also thinking of getting one of those mini steam-cleaners(hand-held) forlittle accidents on my living roomcarpet. Does anyone use one of those?

Cleanup is pretty easy for me, but I'm always looking for better waysto do it. My buns are inside in a condo. I don'tuse bedding because they just push it out of their way and lay on thecoroplast. The second and third floors are covered withindoor/outdoor carpet. I just suck up stray messes with thedustbusterand then spray down and wipe the coroplast.

I love my mini steam cleaner. Got itfor the cages and it works wonders! It took a lot of scrubbingout of the job for me. You don't have to worry aboutchemicals or smells bothering them. I use it all the time.

Will pull up a post by Buck Jones(called brusha brusha brusha)because he uses brushes that work well too.

My mini steamer is broken, and I am brokenhearted! I'm going to get it fixed, but haven't had the timelately. Anyway, it works really well for cleaningeverything. I use a shop vac for the floor in mybunny/ferret/rat room. It gets the hay, but it sometimes getsclogged by it. I use vinegar and water to clean the litterboxes plus I put baking soda under the litter so it foams up with thevinegar.

I know I have seen it on here before, but what is coroplast?I'm going to be making cages out of NIC cubes and am trying to decidewhat to put on the floors.

Thanks,

Jen

Jen,

Coroplast is corrugated plastic. They use it to makesigns. It comes in 4' x 8' sheets and is usuallyinexpensive. It worked great in my NIC condo. I gotgrey (it comes in several colors) and used duct tape to tape up thesides and it matched perfectly! Let me know if you need anyhelp making your cage. I just made mine a month ago and weLOVE it!

I didn't want to create a post about this, but this thread seems to fit a question I have:

Well...here's the story..Cosmo is pretty much litter trained except fora few poops that end up outside his litter box (which I think just comeout when he bounds out of the box)...anyway..I've been using carefreshat first..and more recently aspen just as bedding in the cage aroundthe litterbox...cosmo just pushes the bedding out of thewayand lays on the solid bottom of his cage..never ever liesor nestles in the bedding...(or he'll lay on the top story on hiswicker matt)...

so do you think I could just eleminate the bedding all together...Idon't use it for any accidents outside the litterbox (cause there arenone) and he doesn't lie in it...that will save me money and cleaningwork...what do you think?

Sorry for the long post

Vanessa

Vanessa,

That's why I quit using the bedding. It just seemed to get intheir way. I just use litter in the litter box and we'refine. They never pee in their house (just mine, sometimes!).

Wet slicker brushes are awsome for removing loosehair and refuse from the cage. For "cling-ons" hanging fromthe bottom of the cage, I run a metal rod under the cage bottom toknock them off.

A handful of straw or hay can also serve as a make shift "scrub brush" for messy jobs -- then you just throw it away!

I have a small 2 gallon shop vac that I picked upat Sears for about $25. It has been a lifesaver, it has nobags to buy so you just vacuum up the bunny nuggets, and any otherrefuse from the cage and floor, snap off the top and dump out thecanister into the trash.

My bunnies didn't seem to like any of the bedding or litter that Itried, and believe me I tried them all! I noticed that whenthey were out running around that if there was any newspaper on thefloor they peed on it. Now I just put newspaper on the floorof their cage, and in the various litter pans that I have scatteredaround. Now they are almost completely potty trained, exceptfor a few random little poops.:p
