Cleaning up hay? Suggestions?

I'm doing a massive clean of my apartment today and tomorrow, and I don't have the best vacuum. Just wondering if anyone else has any techniques they use to clean up hay from carpet? lol.

Wasn't sure where to put this.

I do as much as possible by hand. It's quiet & good exercise. But you may want to get a shop vac at some point.

Unfortunately hay seems to clog normal vacuums (clogged my mom's vacuum). You have to pick up the big pieces by hand (just pile it all together and pick it up as a pile).

I second the shop vac. They make some smaller versions. They even make one that is called a "bucket head" It's a vacuum attachment for a 5 gallon bucket. granted, it doesn't work as powerful and you would need to vacuum in smaller chucks, but gets the job done.

We have a broom called a Sweepa Rubber Broom (http://www.sweepa.com/home_1.html) and it actually works fantastic on hay, gets the carpet almost as clean as a vaccuum would. A shop vac would be better, though.

you can get a decent shop vac for $20-30 at Home Depot, and it's worth every penny - hay and stray poops can wreck havoc on even the best standard vacuum.
