Christmas tree for bunnies

I know I'm early but I was thinking of giving Frank his own christmas tree this year. It's going to be either spruce or a pine tree and I woul love to decorate it with treats and toys. I need help with what kind å "thread" I can use to hang these things on his tree. Of course I don't want to give him anything that could damage him and or is poisoinous to him.

Any suggestions?

I don't think it would be a good idea for a rabbit to have full access to a real tree. The needles can be quite sharp and could poke an eye or worse. Spruce has especially rigid and sharp needles. You mention spruce or "pine" but pine is a super general term. There are many different types of pine trees.

Maybe another option would be to get one of those bare (metal or wood) trees for hanging toys & treats on.

Maybe you could make an edible wood tree using balsa wood. According to the internet it’s a bunny safe soft wood. I know from experience you can easily sink a fingernail into, cut it with a razor blade or tiny Japanese hand saw (even a serrated kitchen knife), and you can probably easily get some at a county store, online, or probably even a craft store. Then if you make branches you can attach the treats to that so your bun can eat the whole tree!

Or if you wanted to do a quick simple standing tree, you could use slots to do the tree. Then maybe make mini “shelf branches” the treats are on that your bun can eat!

I used to get a live Christmas tree for Fizz every year. We'd get a fraizer furrr with the round needles and make sure it hadn't been treated with fire-retardant or anything. I'd wash it off really well outside and let it dry before I brought it inside. I'd also only decorate it well above 'bunny level'. Everything below that was for Fizz. Sometimes I'd hang a plastic 'bunny safe' ornament on the lower branches for her to harrass. She loved laying under the tree and pretending she was a little wild bunny and she also loved nibbling on it. I always made sure that its water stand was covered so she couldn't get into the water and otherwise just kept an eye on her. Before Fizz I used to do it for my previous bun, Georgie. Never had any problems and it made both of us happy.

On a side note, watch out of Christmas flower plants. Poinsettias for example are dangerous for nibbling buns(and cats).

Balsa tree don't exist in my country. Where I live it's mainly spruce and pine that exist here.

I get small live Christmas trees for my rabbits every Christmas. The doe loves them, but as they're in 8" high pots, I have to cut high branches off for her to eat after she mows off the bottom branches.

That is my intention too. I'm going to get a small christmas tree of pine or spruse. What kind of string/wire/thread do you recommend for hanging up the treats?

Natural jute is the most common safe string, and it's the one that i've been using when it's called for. Shouldn't be too hard to find-for us even craft stores sell it, as well as home improvement and garden stores. Though as far as i know, any sort of natural string should be fine.

One of the big rabbit companies in the US uses sisal rope for their toys, but it's thicker and might not work the best for hanging stuff -- the sisal rope I have is 6mm thick and would weigh down small tree branches.

Thanks. I will look into that and see if there are some shops in my country that sell such thread/rope
