change in circumstances

Hi guys,
Im very dissapointed to say that I will need to be rehoming bug.
My work situation has changed and I dont get to spend as much time home as id like.
as a result I have very little time to care for bug properly and its not fair on her.
I really want her to go to a home with owners who have a love and interest for rabbits that will care for her properly.
she is not agressive, doesnt scare easily gets along with dogs and just loves to be around her humans.

if anyone is interested in taking her could you please pm me, I live in sydney.

she will come with a nic condo, bale of hay and ox bow pellets.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have placed an add in gumtree but I will be interviewing applicants and going to their home to see what her living situation would be like.
I wanted to send her to the rabbit sanctuary but that will cost around $300 to surrender her.

My only other suggestion is to try looking up other rescues in your area, some might have a facebook page or something. I agree with interviewing people thoroughly before re-homing if you do go that route.

Yea I might have a look around, I love Bug and I wish things were different but its just not fair for her only being aloud out when its dark.
I want someone who has time to look after her and I want her to be in the same conditions I have her in, living in doors, being able to go out doors they just need to have a knowledge of rabbits and more time than me to play with her and train her and just enjoy her company.

I'm being very picky with people who are applying on Gumtree :S I think that's my defence mode saying no you cant have my baby until your god and only do amazing things! lol
Once I tell people I will need to inspect their house to see where she will be living they back off.

I can understand why a lot of people back off at that point, some people won't have a suitable set-up, others are simply concerned for their own safety and not knowing who you are etc, and others don't want to go through the trouble and believe they can get another rabbit without that hassle. The right person will understand why you want to inspect their house and conditions for the rabbit before accepting them to take Bug though.

I think you should get Bug a friend and a bit more space (more shelves, a run, whatever) and then she wouldn't need you for entertainment or exercise. Rabbits are being surrendered in record numbers, Bug may be okay but another shelter bunny won't be. This way you can save two two rabbits from the system.

While I commend your idea, if the owner doesn't have time for Bug already, how will they be able to spend the time required on bonding the two? And if it doesn't work out, it's twice as much a problem.

Azerane, most rescues will bond the bunnies. They'll let Bugs and his mom meet some potential mates and when they decide on one he likes, keep both Bugs and the mate for a few days to make sure they bond.

If someone's circumstances have changed and they feel they can no longer provide for their bun rehoming is a good option. I think your doing a great thing not putting her in a shelter, they are great for bunnies but it puts pressure on the shelter and other bunnies need to be rehomed. I also think checking out potential homes is a MUST. anyone who will give bug a good home will understand your need to see her new living space. Unfortunately places like gumtree attract people who either aren't applicable for rescues (and theirs always a reason) or people who want a 'cheap' pet quickly and haven't researched what it is to have a rabbit. Good luck finding her a suitable home. It'll take a while but it'll be worth the wait to find her some where suitable x

IF your rabbit is happy/content REGARDLESS of how YOU feel about it, then don't rehome her. Keep her. Rabbits adjust nicely to all sorts of living environments. So you are busy during the day (and I'll assume she is in a secure dwelling when you are away) and you let her out at night.

You do know rabbits don't need to be out during the day right? that's their rest time. So if you are letting her out at night you are actually working with her nature rhythms anyways.

I am more so thinking about her potential as a pet, pets are suppose to be enjoyed and part of ones life, I think Bug could have a more fulfilling life with a family who have the time to just be with her, I have tried for a few months now to try and make it work but I feel gutted every time I come home and sit with her that she can only have 2 hours a day to bink and run around.
Her Condo has 3 shelves she has toys she has a digging box she makes hay tunnels but what is the point me rescuing a rabbit if im not really rescuing her I feel like im letting her down I don't really know what else to do really I just feel cruel I like spending time with my pets. My dogs are a bit different doesn't matter how late it is you can still go for a walk and they are outside all day, I do dog sports so they get mental stimulation that way.

You spend two hours a day with her and she has a three storey condo with all sorts of stimulation.

Trust me....your bunny is content. Even potentially 'happy'.

You have rescued her. You are giving her everything she needs....food, shelter, things to do, time with you. She has it completely made.

I am just trying reassure you...not trying to change your mind. your bunny isn't suffering. If you think like a prey animal which is what rabbits are, they want food, shelter, companionship when desired, and things to do. You've given your bunny that. So therein, be content.

There are penty of buns who live in tiny cages and get no time out at all. It sounds like Bugs has a pretty good quality of life to me and you'd be hard pressed to find someone who would give her a better one. Is your new work situation a permanent change or is there a possibility that you'll have more time to spend with her in the future? One of the things I love about my rabbits is how adaptable they are to changes in my schedule. If it's finals week and I'm at school for 12 hours, that's okay because the have a litterbox and a huge pile of hay to keep the happy until I get back.

I agree! My guys are equally challenged if not more so, just because of shear volume and my duties with other bunnies. Getting her a friend, though, really would be the icing on the cake for a nice life. My bonded pair are sitting in their three-shelf condo right now with the door open, they have no desire to come out.

I work for family, my situation is pretty much permanent until I find a new career path, its only bound to get later that I go home.
I'm on a fence If you guys say this is more than enough to satisfy the happiness of a bunny then I will keep at it and try to improve the situation as much as I can.
I haven't found a suitable candidate yet so that must be a sign.
