Come on Chalkie honey.

Jen, when are you to leave? and when will you get to now? I'm so sorry you've had such a run of bad luck. I know I'd have a hard time leaving if one of mine were sick too.

I can call in an hour to see how she is!

Oh, you mean our holiday? We're due to leave in the middle of the night Sunday/Monday, and we fly from Heathrow on Monday morning at 9am ish (4am to you guys?) We haven't yet booked a hotel so we're waiting until Saturday night to do that, and hopefully we'll have a good idea by then of whether it's safe to go or not... if not we'll postpone booking the hotel until Sunday, and if she's still not right by then, we'll postpone it all! :? It's hard not knowing whether to pack or not lol. I want to get the suitcases out but I don't want to jinx it either :?

We've been out running errands all morning- getting bunny veg, litter and hay etc to take our minds off of it but I have been SO sick. I've had horrible gas(?) pains and have been taking medicine all day- I think it's the stress! :?

We went into Pets At Home and were chatting to the manager we know- to cheer me up she let me pet a beautiful rexy girl that they had in there- she looked just like Cove's Floof! My first time touching a rex! That was a treat :)

Must go and find more things to do to occupy me for the next hour- and take more medicine!

I JUST CALLED!!!!

She's doing 'absolutely fine' apparently!!! :biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2:

We can pick her up at 4.15. I presume it's such a specific time so we can speak to the vet as well....

I'm SO glad she's come through it ok. Obviously it remains to be seen how well she'll recover, and how she'll be eating etc but it's a big load off my mind already.

Oh, and one more thing I forgot earlier- I was talking to the Pets At Home manager we know, about antibiotics etc, and the vet she uses in Bristol has used injectable PenG on rabbits before! Often! One with head-tilt that made a brilliant recovery, and a few more as well. She thinks that her vet would be more than happy to speak to ours, and gave me the name :D

Oh that's such good news! I hope she continues to do well now!

So you finally felt a rexy baby huh? Aren't they soft?

*hops off to get Bo and snuggle him for a bit!*

Hey, sorry for the late update- we've been watching her very carefully...

We bought her home at about 4.30 and it's 7 here now. She's not eaten anything, apart from a teeny tiny bite of hay and carrot top. She has been nosing the food though.

She seems VERY groggy and stumbling about everywhere- she stood on her back legs and toppled straight over- and then sort of tumbled in and out of the litter tray :? I'm guessing that's the aneasthetic and pain meds though...

She felt cold earlier, so I cuddled her in a warm blanket, and she snuggled into me for about an hour. She propped her front legs up on my arm, which seems to be her position of choice at the moment- I guess she doesn't want her belly touching the ground, poor baby :?

The good news is that she has drank a LOT of water! And she peed on the towel while I was holding her, so that's something at least...

She was grinding her teeth just a while ago, and we called the vets, but she's had the max amount of painkillers today, and can't have anymore until the morning. :?

We've tried banana, basil, parsley, carrot top, kale, lettuce and apple so far to tempt her! I'll be staying up with her tonight to keep a close eye on her...

Thank you for all the well-wishes guys :)

We've just moved her into a little pen on her own. The other bunnies were fussing round her a lot, but it was becoming hard to tell who was pooping and who wasn't. Also, whenever we put any food down for her, one of the others came over and scoffed it! She's in a little pen now, that is normally out gate round the tv unit. She's got water and some food in there, and lots of folded up towels and some vet bed so keep her comfy. She's fairly near the radiator as well, and we've got the snugglesafe in there to keep her warm...

I'm glad that she came through this so well but sort of concerned that she is grinding her teeth.

What kind of pain meds did she get/ Did they give you any for later?
it's great that she is drinking; eating is less important right after surgery

if she feels cold you can put rice in a sock and warm in the microwave to place next to her...just make sure that it is not too hot and also that the heat is distributed throughout rather than hot in one place.

Hope that she continues to do well

Thank you Maureen :)

She's actually stopped grinding her teeth now! The vet agreed that it can be a sign of pain, but that they've also known rabbits who are very groggy to do it as well (then again maybe the only reason they are groggy is because they've had a painful surgery in the first place?!) Either way, she's stopped for now...

She had Metacam and something else.... Steve spoke to them and he wasn't sure what they said, but she's had enough Metacam to last her until the morning she said...

She's looking a lot more awake now as well- she just cleaned her face a lot, and then she started trying to pull at her stitches! :X She's given up on that now luckily...

She has a snugglesafe heat pad in there, with a towel over it, which is keeping her nice and warm, although I might make a rice sock for extra warmth if she looks like she needs it. She's also quite near the radiator which is on warm.

She's also nibbled some oats out of Steve's hand!!

She's currently cleaning herself up. It's taken a long time for her to move properly but she seems a lot more alert and 'with it' than she was, and not so.....shocky?

I'm a bit baffled- she's just escaped from her little pen (which wasn't well secured because she was so darn sleepy!) and has started running round the living room?

Then just as I was typing that she took a dried pineapple piece from Steve and wolfed it down....

THEN just as I was typing that, Steve put some hay down in front of her and she's tearing into it!!!

I mean, this is all brilliant, but is it too good to be true?!!!

P.S we're not letting her run about too much obviously, but its nice to see her move without falling over...

Sounds great so far..:)

I'm sure that she was falling because she was still dopey from the anesthesia

hope things continue this well so that you can go on your trip..
maybe you could show the pet-sitter how to get on the forum if there is any problem while you're gone.

after all we all know Chalk :p

I was really worried about the falling over earlier because she was just literally toppling over all the time - I almost worried about the function of her back legs but I told myself that I was worrying too much and it was just the discomfort and the aneasthetic- sure enough she's moving about absolutely fine now!

She's just eaten a small pile of hay... So far as I can see only 2 poops so far, but what goes in must come out sometime right?

Still drinking well, so I'm thinking no need for Dioralyte/Pedialyte just yet....

She just jumped a level of the NIC cage!! One second she was by the window eating hay, the next she was heading into the cage and jumping up :? I'm worried about her wound so I've put her back in the pen for now...

We're still not sure about the trip- we're going to make a call tomorrow on whether we go or not. At this stage I just feel so terrible about all that's happened to her, and I've been so sick (literally) with worry today.... and I'm so worried I've not been doing the right thing by her in all of this. All I want is for her to be ok!

Help!!

She's chewing her stiches- a lot!!

They're non-disposable ones- because the last surgery she had they suspected the abscesses could have been from a reaction to the suture material- so they wanted to be safe rather than sorry...

Anyway, I had some stretchy fluffy socks, so I cut a tube out of them and put it round her, like a soft e-collar. Is this ok? It's not in the least bit tight, but I dont think she can get to the stitches with it on... I think actually I might take it off because I feel really bad now, but I'll have to keep stopping her from chewing all night...

Anyone? What should I do?? :?

She's still got the 'scarf' on, and is managing to clean her face, with it. And I swear I saw her eat some cecals....

Still eating a steady amount of hay, but no greens or pellets yet...

I have to go to bed- I'm dead on my feet, but Steve is staying up to watch her and we'll swap 5-6amish, so I'll be back on then!!

Mr_mouse_chalk might be on in the meantime if he needs anything.... if anyone's here! :)
