I have recently got a Netherlands dwarf buck who’s currently 12 weeks But as he is a dwarf the vet has said that he cannot be neutered untill he is 6 months due to his size; i am looking to bond him with my 1 year old french lop buck who is already neutered. Could i begin to bond them yet or should i wait untill my new bun is neutered but this wouldnt be for a while yet.
They are both in hutches next to each other, and have been showing good signs when let out in their runs next to each other but i am hesitant to put them together yet as i am unsure of the answer😊🧐5E41CBE1-8307-4703-B497-03588D25FA5C.png1B6DBE55-A768-4173-BB07-371EB3777EE5.jpeg

They are such cuties! I would recommend waiting until the the dwarf has been neutered, and also preferably wait 2-3 weeks after the surgery so the bun can recover. After both buns have been neutered they will be less hormonal and it will be easier on your part to bond them :)

It is advised to wait 6-8 weeks after the second rabbit is neutered because they still hormonal a few weeks after their testicles were removed.

I can tell I've tried bonding two times two different rabbits 6-8 weeks after neutering and both times it was too early. With first rabbit 8 weeks after neutering first session went well but after that he kept humping and spraying and girl didn't like it so they had a little tornado fight. I separated them immediately and waited one more month, then they bonded easily, they are a very beautiful pair and 5 months together now.

The other one is a very relaxed rabbit and I tried when it was 6 weeks after neutering but when he saw girl he changed completely and kept chasing her so I had to separate them as well. I will try again one month later, they generally liked each other and they have similar interests so I hope they can bond, they both are very nice rabbits.

By the way, I don't want to disappoint you but there's no guarantee that your rabbits will bond. It is promising that they are showing signs but they say it is easier to bond male to female, both neutered, then two males. But I've seen some success stories here as well so fingers crossed.

For now I would recommend to do some research on bonding rabbits, there's plenty of videos on youtube and if you use search on this site too, it would help you to avoid some common mistakes. First of all you should find/create a neutral territory, new to both rabbits, otherwise they can imagine that it is their territory and the other rabbit is an invader so it can lead to fight. Even your rabbits look so cute but every male rabbit is very serious about their territory.

Sometimes bonding is really easy hope it will be easy for you, but sometimes two rabbits are just uncompatible for some reason and it is hard to predict really.

Thank you very much, i hope your rabbits eventually bond well!
i am aware it may not work, but i have also seen a-lot of male rabbits that have bonded well. im prepared either way! 🤞
Ive done lots of research on bonding as this is my first time doing so, but i have seen many contradicting ways of doing things thats why i posted on here for some tips.
Thank you again😊
