Has some of the markings of Checkered Giant, but sized more like a Himalayan. Hard to tell without knowing its age. It's not a match to any of the ARBA-recognized pure breeds, looks more broken in color. Do you know where this wabbit came from? Mother and father?

we got him spare of the moment at a pet store they said he was a drop off so theres not much we no about him not sure of his age as well

Flemish Giants are not recognized in broken, though he reminds me a bit of those.

I'd say he's just a good mutt bunny- total mix, but entirely too cute! :)

I've got to go with the Chekered Giant mix as well. Those back lines and marking aren't by accident. Some genes where at work.

Really nice looking rabbit. Love the marking.

Definitely not a Checkered Giant and not even a mix. Those are rabbits that are not usually mixed in. My guess is that it is just a mutt. It is Broken Chestnut in color. Some broken patterns also have the spine marking and spots down the side.

thanks for all the complements hes a great bunny. its our first time having a bunny and it wont be our last :)

awww, he's adorable! i'd say flemmie mix ;)

Beautiful! What about a English Spot? I know he doesn't really have the body type for one, and I've only seen them in black and blue, but the markings are spot-on for an English Spot.(sorry about pun)

I agree with Sharon. There's no Checkered in that mix.

The pattern is very common among many breeds. The color is also very common, so doesn't help much to narrow a breed down.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I think it is def some kind of checkered giant mix. He is close to the same weight and has the same exact patterns that most do except they are brown instead of black. He even has the one tuft of hair coming from his left ear that they have. He looks like he has english spot in him too. I dont really care what he is. He is such a cuddler and we love him.

Just wondering if you've seen a Checkered in person? If you have, then you would know that your rabbit is not a Checkered nor does it have any Checkered in it. Checkered Giants don't come in Chestnut.

There is more to a breed than color. Just because a rabbit "looks" like the same pattern or color, you need to look at body type as well. Your rabbit does not look like it has a "full-arch" body type.

He is very cute though and I am glad he has such a wonderful home :)

If he's that large, he's more likely to be a commercial mix of possibly New Zealand/Flemish. Do you have any photos of him standing up?

I once had a checkered giant mix that looked very similar to this rabbit, so it very well could be a checkered mix. Just because they are not that common doesn't mean that it isn't possible. It also looks like one to me because of it's face and ears. I would guess a checkered giant crossed with maybe another commercial breed.... like a NZW or a Californian or even a Rex. But with that pattern and the way it looks, I would say it for sure has some checkered giant in it..... I LOVE crosses, as they have such great personalities... but I can't afford to keep a barn full of them :D Mel
