Bunny tolerates my partner picking him up but not me?

Maybe i'm still picking him up wrong? My bunny cal seems to have a preference around my partner, often binkying near him, sitting next to him, and even letting him pick him up! I don't understand since I feed, clean, and spend more time with cal overall. Anytime I try to sit with him he wiggles away, and don't get me started when I need to pick him up if he's in a spot where he shouldn't be.

The way try to pick him up is usually trying to scoop his butt and trying to lift chest but I guess he hates his underside being touched..

Give her some time. Since she is new, I wouldn’t pick her up too much because she doesn’t know you. It took a while for my bun to let me pet him, so just know it’s a process. And also, rabbits don’t respond to any sort of punishment because they are so stubborn

Haha, she came out a second ago and I sat behind her. She looked for an escape, but my hands were around her. She eventually found a spot to escape, but didn't leave. She instead hopped on my lap and started biting me. Lol.

Please stop trying to pick her up. You've had her for such a short time, you are going to stress her out. Rabbits don't bite -- not unless they are being harassed or frightened. There is no other reason for a rabbit to bite. In other words, if she is biting, you are doing something drastically wrong.

Yeah, it's really a bad idea to force your bunny to your hands. I remind my husband of this all the time. I let Shen come to me when he feels like it. He'll hop all over my husband while he's at his computer, and sit in my lap while I work. He'll ask for attention then hop away. Only time he allows to be picked up is when he wants to know where I am. Hint: Usually the other side of the house, talking to my mother-in-law.

While rabbits can certainly have preferred humans, there could be other factors at play. (Is your rabbit fixed?) If your partner is able to pick him up and bun sits near him, then bun must be associating those pick ups with positive interaction. If you are trying to pick him up if he's in a spot he shouldn't be, then you are probably going to be seen as the "bad guy" who's moving him away from where he wants to be. Rabbits don't take kindly to being "re-directed."

The key to bonding with a rabbit is to let the rabbit do the initiating. If you try to sit near him, that's not always welcome. But if he comes near you, that's great.... unless, anytime he does this you initiate more by trying to pet him or get closer. It's fine to do those things later on, but not at first. The best way for bunny to feel comfortable around you is to ignore him. Otherwise he thinks 'anytime I go near this human, they try to touch me (ie. bother me).'
