My bunny, Vulcan, a 7-8 month old holland lop, has suddenly become very skittish. Nothing has changed in his environment, and I don't believe that it is me he is afraid of. The first time I noticed it, my sister went over to say 'hi' and he hid from her. It wasn't the first he'd done that, but I'm the only one who spends a lot of time with him. After he hid, he wouldn't come out for me and, while he didn't act scared of me directly, he was upset about something. He was alright afterwards, and went back to his usual self. Now, two days later, I find him huddled in a corner, his ears in his 'red-alert' position which means something's upset him. He was fine when I approached, but flinched when I touched him. After the initial flinch, he didn't react, neither getting more upset or more relaxed. He didn't show any interest when I dished up his daily amount of pellets, but he did react to his veggies. The whole time he crossed his pen (32 sq ft), he acted terrified, doing his cautious stop-and-start along with his 'head bobbing' that he does when he doesn't know how safe something is. Like when I put a new tunnel in his cage a few weeks ago. Any ideas? I've had him since he was ten weeks old and this behavior is new, strange, and unsettling.
