Bunny Constantly Peeing on the Bed!

I’ve been having a problem recently where my bum is just always going on the bed to pee. His litter box is clean and easily accessible but I’ve noticed that he’s been peeing on the bed a lot lately. The biggest problem is that I barely catch him on there but when I do I clap loudly to get him off. This has become more common ever since he’s gotten more confident and now leaves my room to go explore my parents and sisters rooms which he has also been peeing on their beds. Is there anything in particular that I can do or should I just monitor him so that whenever he gets on the bed I clap to reinforce the idea that he shouldn’t be on there? I also want to note that every time he does pee I throughly wash all the blankets and covers and wash the mattress with pet odor remover so that he won’t smell his pee and want to go there again.

There's something about beds and bedding that seems irresistible to many rabbits. Maybe the combination of the softness and the scent of the human. In any case, the only real solution is to block access to any of those beds. Clapping may get a rabbit off of a bed -- but only if you're there to catch them in the act. Rabbits have zero inclination to "be obedient" in the way a dog can be trained. The desire to please simply isn't there. They do what they want to do!!

How to block access is up to you and your family. It could be as simple as keeping the doors closed to those other bedrooms. If it's preferred to keep them open, then perhaps a gate could go across the opening. We've used a piece of foamboard to sit inside a door opening -- easy to move (or step over). Just depends on what y'all are comfortable with doing.

Some owners have had success by putting a blankie with the rabbits scent, on the bed with them. Makes them less inclined to need to remark with their scent if it's already there on the blanket.

If your rabbit isn't neutered yet, there's a chance that neutering could help reduce the marking behavior. Though no gaurantees, as some fixed rabbits still will pee on soft surfaces.

I would also check if the litter box isn't too full-(under the assumption that clean and empty mean something a bit different from one another) i know Storm will rage-pee on the bed or blankets if the toilet is a bit too full to his liking.

Yeah we’ve been closing the doors now and I didn’t know that about rabbits! Makes sense why he never listens

That’s a Really good idea! I’ll try the blanket trick and see how it goes! He’s neutered so I think he just likes the softness of the bed

It could also be that! I usually keep up a good routine but since it was towards finals I was neglecting his litter box and letting it sit for a day or two longer than I usually do I’m also thinking of getting some bedding to put in his litter box to make it a bit softer

This means your rabbits love you. (Marking you as their territory) I usually spray my bed with 50%vinger50%water formula so they don’t smell me anymore on the bed.
