breeders, could this be a sign of a serious health problem?

Hi everyone! I will likely be adopting a lovely Holland Lopdoe from a breedersoon, but I have a question. I'm not sure what the whole story is, but apparently this girl doesn't have babies. Her breeder says that she either absorbs the litters or just doesn't get pregnant. I don't know exactly how old she is or how many times she's been bred, and she might have had babies in the past (I don't have a lot of info at the moment). I was just concerned that her inability to have babies might be indicative of a more serious health problem. What do all you breeders think? We're going to spay her anyway so the baby thing isn't important, I just want to know if this is a sign something might be wrong...

Thank you in advance! And you can see the pretty girl in my "I want this bunny" thread on the main forum :biggrin2:

I've had very healthy, lovely does that just refused to breed. Just had no maternal need to procreate. (Got two of them right now!). I've placed them as pets and with 4-H kids (as long as they know they are still showable/just not breedable).

If you're going to spay her anyway, there should not be any issues at all. I wouldn't hesitate getting her as a companion bunny.

My biggest concern in her difficulty to conceive would be the presence of uterine tumors, vent diseaseor infection of the uterus (pyometra).

But, since you are going to spay the doe, I wouldn't be overly concerned about this being related to serious health problems if everything else checks out.

Pam
