Hi Everyone,

For those of you who haven't read my post in the New Memebers thread, Iwill be adopting my first rabbit (hopefully) in late June. So, I waswondering if anyone recommendeds any specific rabbit books. I alreadyhave a small collection, but my feeling is that you can never know toomuch about something (especially a living something). Any suggestionswould be appreciated.

As a side note, I love this forum. It is truly informative. Everyone, keep up the good work!

Check out our own Cheat Sheet for Rabbit Care.Most of the info there is better than in any rabbit book. If you joinARBA, (American Rabbit Breeders Association) you get a book calledRaising Better Rabbits & Cavies which is also very good, evenif you are not a breeder.

It has been mentioned a few times here, and I would also recommend it.

I think personally it would have just a much information, if not morethan most books. But always handy to have a book at hand to refer backto.

Mambo101 - can you go to the ARBA website to sign up? and you don't have to be a breeder?

Yes, you can sign up right on the ARBA web site.That's what I did. In addition to the book you get a cool magazinecalled Domestic Rabbit. You do not have to be a breeder to join. Andthe free book I mentioned above alone is worth the cost of the yearlymembership. Just be patient after you join sometime it takes them up to2 months to get you your materiel.

I did, and it was great but the time is comingto renew my membership (even though I have never used it) I would liketo show Leo but I need to get him tattooed and just don't have themoney or time right now.

I don't think that I really have the time toshow. Especially because all I'm looking for is a pet. But, in youropinion, are the book and magazines useful for non-breeders andnon-showers?

The "Raising Better Rabbits & Cavies" book that you get with ARBA membership is well worth the cost of membership alone.

Some of the information in the book that non-breeders and non-showerswould be interested in is the complete breed listing and information oneach breed including some history on each breed.

There is information on housing including important info onventilation, humidity, lighting and temperature. Also info onrabbit nutrition. The interesting history of the rabbit andtaxonomy and anatomyof the rabbit. Of course, youfind extensive info on diseases as well as interesting tidbits such asthe number of teeth a rabbit has. There is also an extensiveglossary of rabbit terms.

Of course, it also includes information of interest to those breeding and showing.

Have I sold you on ARBA yet? LOL My copy of "RaisingBetter Rabbits & Cavies" is so extensively referred to that itis falling apart and I'm going to have to purchase another copy at somepoint.
