Best size cage for Rex

Hi. Right now our lil bunny is in a fairly small cage at night and when we we are not home. . . mainly because before Cocoa our Rex came along we had a netherland dwarf and those were his items *They've been sanitized and all that* . He ( Midnight, the netherland dwarf) passed away unexpectedly in a routine neuter . . . well Cocoa, our young Rex is starting to outgrow the little cage. He wants to stand and look around and has no room for it anymore. We have small living quarters and he is going to be a big bunny (10 lbs or so!) He was a gifted pet my daughter instantly fell in love with. He has been her emotional support. He is only about 12 weeks old right now and still growing. What size cage would be best?

Standard Rex Rabbits get big fast, you could opt into a puppy pen.

You could try a large dog crate.

Large dog crates don't do well for small spaces. Often they won't even be big enough. Our biig bun, now full-grown, is also 10-12 pounds or something(giant lop) and even though he has a cage of equal size to an xxl dog crate, it's not enough for him. Puppy pens are a good way to give your rabbit space and if he is old enough to be neutered and hormones calmed, you could try thinking about free-roaming him, that would include bunny proofing but it would be worth the wait.

We are still leary of having him neutered. We just lost our last ( and he was our first rabbit) to a routine neuter in December. I agree there isn't much space to put a very large crate for him in our quarters. He is only in a crate when we go to bed at night and when we are not home. I am home often as I do not work full time so that helps some. My daughter and myself are creative we will figure something out. The ideas and pictures were nice as a reference point.

Don’t you have large bunny cages or x-pen cage. They are bigger than a dog crate ^^

The bigger the better! I would use a dog cage for locking him up a night if you do free-range. You could use an x-pen if you don't free-range, as everyone else has said.

@CuddlyCocoa I had no idea. Well, the risk of losing a life is always possible when operating some creature and that won't probably never change. Did the previous rabbit get to go to a rabbit-savvy vet? Mine is still fine, alive and kicking after his neuter in december. He didn't go to the very best, but he pulled it through. Although it varies, i guess. Well, hope you have better luck and a merry, long life with your new one!

trust me i know it's hard but i would HIGHLY consider getting him fixed
My 7 year old bun isn't fixed and he poops and pees everywhere it's a pain to clean up
I would suggest seeing a different vet, and make sure you do blood work and x rays beforehand to make sure your rabbit is healthy before surgery

You're probably going to need about 12 sq ft since your rabbit is so big
So either free range or
maybe you could get a loft bed ?
then your rabbit cage could be kept under the bed
