Bailey got a bad bite wound to her vagina

I can't say that it looks bad or not to me since I haven't dealt with an injured rabbit in that area before. But as a general note the redder the tissue, the more problematic it is.

And yes - Puss is the body's reaction to infection. White puss is specifically shedding white blood cells. It doesn't mean it is bad though- the scary infections are the coloured puss Staph infections. Sorry for the detail!

But you are right, best to try and nip this at the bud. Be generous with the betadine tonight.

Is it just thin puss? If so, that's ok. It's just white blood cells like dquesnel said. Fey had that when recovering from a belly wound (also done by another bunny) and that's what my vet said it was. It's more a problem if the area seems inflamed.

Actual infected rabbit puss (such as froman abscess)is very very thick, like cream cheese or toothpaste. :yuck

I just remembered- when Fey was hurt she was initially treated at an emergency vet clinic. The doc there told me to give her a heating pad for 15 minutes a time at least twice a day. The warmth would encourage blood flow, making it heal faster. At the time I had her in a plastic bottomed cage so I put an electric heating pad underneath and would turn it on for 15 minutes several times a day. Whenever I did Fey would press her sore little belly down on the warm part of the floor. Now I have a Snuggle Safe which I like much better.

I had also had to do warm wet compresses on baby Zappa's genitals which were inflamed from syphilis infection, per vet orders. Although I'm guessing dry heat would be better in Bailey's case.

When Beau's eye was so infected the pus from his eye that Iwas cleaning day and night was the consistency of regular pus ..like a person with an infected eye

I wonder if the difference is due to it being in his eye? Tears might thin it out some and would be produced a lot due to the eye irritation. All I know is the vet told me infected pus elsewhere on the body is really thick and my experience seems to agree with that.

No, it's not thick, I don't think. It's just white puss on the outlining of part of the wound, just on the side. I just got home with a big bottle of betadine. So she will definitely be getting that tonight.

I got some fruit flavored baby food in hopes to just mix some medicine with it tonight and she'll eat it. Since she has her full appetite, it's worth a try, i guess.

Her hospital cage she's in has a plastic bottom. I have a heating pad, but it's not big enough to cover the whole bottom, so I'm not sure if she will even lay on it. I will try it or maybe even have her on my lap with it. So if she sits with me or likes it, I'll definitely try it. I can see how it can help

She should be able to move off the heating pad if she feels warm and the temp should really be very carefully monitored.

I personally would not leave her alone with one ..I would be afraid of her chewing it or something.

It's actually good that the heating pad doesn't cover the cage floor. That way she can move away from it if she's too warm. I'd put it under the plastic bottom and turn it on for 10-15 minutes while you can be there to watch. She might like it, she might not care. But with space to move away from it she'll be able to choose for herself.

Edit- I hide Fey's meds in canned pumpkin. She loves it so it works pretty well, although she does make a face to let me know she's not fooled.

That does look pretty bad. I think the suggestions here are good but if it looks any worse after the weekend, you may want to take her back in.

she's starting to give in during medicine time. She puts up a fight at first but then its like she just wants to get it over with. So I'm happy with that.

Last night was her last dose of pain meds. The vet said only for 5 days she can have it. I guess I just keep giving the antibiotics till I run out. She's about halfway through the bottle now.

She can tell when there is bene-bac sprinkled on her veggies, and won't eat. grrr.

The wound actually looks better compared to a few days ago. I think that betadine is really helping it keep clean. I only just put it on at night before putting on the vaseline. She still squirms when I touch it, so It's still painful.

She's still milking the situation to the best of her benefit. lol

I take a piece of banana (small) and sortof flatten it out ,sprinkle benebac on it and
then mix it up into sort of a messy little piece of banana. most of the time my rabbits eat it probably because the banana taste is stronger than the benebac taste.

I would also watch her to see if she changes at all for the worse without pain meds.
i'm glad that she seems to be doing fairly well considering the extent of her problem...
